Its like a gruinge pedal combined with a ring modulator. A very unique sounding pedal, not versatile. Great name though.

they got the name from an episode of
Hogan's Heroes...and speaking of that
illustrious 30 minutes of 1960's prime
time programming I am amazed that no
band out there has copped the name:
"World War Klink"....staggering!

from gonkulator.com:

It is the sincere desire of gonkulator.com to become the funhouse of choice for geeks everywhere. "What is a gonkulator? For anyone unfamiliar with the TV show Hogan's Heroes (and how exactly could this be possible?), episode 94 in the 4th season featured the gonkulator, a device made from a rabbit trap that Hogan used to trick Klink into believing was a secret electronic device in order to persuade him to bring an electronics expert to camp so that they could help him defect."

Jargon Dictionary defines gonkulator as "A pretentious piece of equipment that actually serves no useful purpose." gonkulator.com will do everything possible to live down to that goal.
