I've heard good things about Waves plug-ins for mixing and mastering; also looks like some positive feedback from this Forum. I've been doing computer recording for about 8 months now (thanks in part to the great advice I've gotten here) with some decent results, so I'd like to go to the next stop of polishing the songs up a bit. I'm mostly making demos so I don't really need professional mastering at this point. I use ProTools and the the included plug-ins are ok, but I don't think they're really designed for anything other than rudimentary mixing & I wouldn't say they're particularly intuitive. The Waves Native Power Pack looks like a decent deal at $375 to get me started. Any thoughts? Is it better to look for each component separately rather than a bundle?

That sounds like a bargain !, I think the Waves products really are first class, the L1 for mixing is worth that much alone IMO, their reverbs are top class too, just don't get too carried away with them.
I often use the mono L1 on my vocals for a 'squeezed' almost 'tube pre-amp' tone too, it helps level things off like a tube pre and has a lovely warm tone to it.
I think you'll enjoy using them !!

Have a look at Ozone from Isotope too:

I've used Waves for my own work in electronic music and for the studios that I direct where I teach. We used these for 11 years with 0 probs and excellent results. The L1 is a thing of beauty. Send something bad though it, and it comes out sounding good. A little exaggeration, but that's the effect it creates.

Yup, that's pretty much my feelings too, so, when do you reckon they'll make a hardware version i can take on-stage with me ??

Thanks for the advice. I downloaded demo and remixed a few songs using Waves Native Power Pack - touch of room reverb, and then the L1 - everything sounds so much better that I can hardly believe it. For $375, this is a great set of tools for us novices to get into mixing. Next, I will work thru the compressors, EQ, etc. I'm pretty sure I'll make the purchase. Not cheap by any means, but I think this stuff will take me pretty far.
