"Thin-skin" NC lacquer?

What exactly is it? I've heard it's just like the old vintage finishes, and they spray it the same and whatnot. If that is so, when they're painting a body sunburst, do they dye the body yellow first? Let me know, guys.

I don't know how close it is to the old finishes. When doing a 3 color sunburst, I believe they spray the yellow/amber then the red then the black.

I just got a thin skin Strat and according to the shop and Fender, the thin skins are 100% nitro finished, including the base coats. Apparently, the modern production Fenders that use nitro now, like standard AVRIs, use poly base coats. Only the models designated "thin skin" use all nitro. The white blonde finish on my Strat is just gorgeous - translucent, shiny, and doesn't make the guitar feel like it's encased in paint.

Re: your burst question, I'm not sure if there would be any difference shooting sunburst between thin skin and regular production methods.
