My son's MIM Strat had started having problems. When playing, the pickups will cut in and out.
I've taken off the pickguard and checked for loose wires or broken solder joints, but I don't see anything.
I've sprayed the switch with contact cleaner but that didn't help either.
Any ideas on what to look for? I'm sure I'm missing something.
THanks

-check all of the cables and effects
-is the jack making contact with the appropriate parts on the cable?

I have the guitar straight into the amp, so his pedals aren't causing it.
The cable seems to be seated properly and making good contact. I've used several different cables with the same result.
Needless to say, I'm getting frustrated..LOL.

95% of the time its the switch. Pickups rarely ever just go dead.

Had a similar problem in a MIJ. It was the switch.

I second this one, I'd look into the switch first.

I had this problem, but it only happened with the middle pup. I ended up having to get it replaced. But it's probably the switch on your son's.

Thanks guys. I tend to believe the switch is bad too.
Just wanted to see if there was something I was missing.
Again, thanks everyone for the input.

This happened to me on a Highway 1 Tele, and it turned out to be the volume pot.
