Vintage Strat knobs ,Where to get?LarryR October 14th, 2007, 03:00 AM Anyone know a good source for vintage knobs? Thanks Larry Mark Davis October 14th, 2007, 04:37 PM http://www.davesguitar.com/product/54KNOBS.JPG Daves has these 54 repros for $49 a set LarryR October 14th, 2007, 04:45 PM http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/LarryR/stratknob003.jpg Hi Mark, thanks for the reply. I feel that you will probably know the answer to this. The knobs (2) that I have(see photo), have a small black font to them. The ones you pictured look like the larger gold font (like the ones on the left in photo) that is on most of the vintage repros. I tried to research it and saw a pic on one sight that called it abs plastic from the early 60's . Are you familair with the small black font? Is it some strange one off that isn't real Fender? Thanks Larry GTO October 14th, 2007, 05:17 PM For an example of the black font and a comparison with new knobs check here http://www.guitarhq.com/fenddiff/makehtml.php?file=repro_strat_knobs.jpg Mark Davis October 14th, 2007, 05:38 PM I see what you mean now. You might have to end up getting a real 60's knob the repros dont look the same. I'll look around and see what I can find. LarryR October 14th, 2007, 06:38 PM hey guys, that is it, Thanks GTO for illustrating that. Now where to find one. The original shattered several years ago, with too many yanks on and off the guard. I should have kept it and tried to glue it together, oh well. Telecaster65 October 15th, 2007, 12:32 PM also visit www.fatboyguitars.co.uk Cheers! Over $20??? 64Strat October 16th, 2007, 10:06 AM I sent them an e-mail. Waiting for a response. I appreciate everyone's great suggestions. So what's a real knob go for at the guitar shows these days? Over $20??? yes, the ABS version is usually around $50 a piece but there can be a lot of variance. The polystrene (known as Bakelite but it's not) go for $150 - $200 a piece. It's based on scarcity, i.e. supply and demand. For someone rehabing a $30k guitar, these are pocket change in cost. If this isn't what you want, then you'll have to go with what is currently available. What is this Tone knob going on? LarryR October 16th, 2007, 11:28 AM Thanks 64, it is going on my frakenstein so no vintage value. I am not even sure the two that are already on there are real or repros, but I don't want to pull them to find out based upon how the last one broke up....probably will go with 1 of the two from the links above depending on responses and call it a day........ Surely you are making some note that this cannot possibly be what the seller is claiming..at least as far date, originality. Ronkirn October 16th, 2007, 04:17 PM Ooooops.... I pasted the wrong copy.. but that Strat is Non sequitur with the Fender time line. Some "bakelite" (actually polystyrene) pickup covers made it through into 1957. 64Strat October 16th, 2007, 05:24 PM here's a picture of my '63 so you can see the ABS knobs on it. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2002-11/71084/closefront.jpg |
