Info needed: Peavey Patriot Bass

This is off-topic (non-tele) but I'm looking for any info on a low-end bass, the Peavey Patriot. I saw a guy playing one recently that looked and sounded cool. I know they're available cheap, and figured it might be fun to snag one on Ebay.

Questions:

1) I've seen pics of them with two different pickups, one that looks like an exposed blade type, and the other that looks like a black plastic-covered humbucker shape. Anyone know anything about the differences/merits of these different pickups?

2) Are there any other differences to be aware of between different years/models?

and most importantly,

3) Has anyone here owned/played one, and if so, what's your opinion on them?

I can't speak directly about the Patriot bass, but my daughter has a Peavey Millenium EXP bass and it's pretty good quality right out of the box. Most of the Peavey guitars I've owned and played are good quality, but some of the Chinese stuff can be touch and go. If it's made in the USA or Korea it'll be good quality, in my experience.
