Tubes for Twin reverbsudancat October 4th, 2007, 08:30 AM Anybody recommend brand of tubes for 70s Twin Reverb. Want it to stay clean and loud. dibber124 October 4th, 2007, 08:35 AM "Winged=C"= 6l6GC outputs, EH 12AXEH, JAN Phillips 12AT7. Use this setup for all "Clean & Loud" Fenders. Boogie October 4th, 2007, 03:46 PM Anybody recommend brand of tubes for 70s Twin Reverb. Want it to stay clean and loud. My 2006 Pro Tube Twin came stock with Fender/Groove Tube rebranded Svetlana 6L6GC's. I believe these are identical in components and construction to the Svetlana Winged C tubes. They are noticeably rounder, fuller and cleaner sounding than the JJ 6L6's I tried to replace them with. I'm going to put a set in my SFTR when I get around to it. dibber124 October 5th, 2007, 08:24 AM The Svetlana's are good, although made at a different factory. I may have a irrational bias in favor of =C='s, but they seem to have more of a clean punchy sound. JJ's are better for a more overdriven gritty sound, IMHO. ASATmarty October 5th, 2007, 11:22 PM Yes on the =C= for power. Or pony up the $250 for NOS GE. No on the EH pretubes. I have two that I am not pleased with. Buy some RCA ax7s; even used ones, especially for V2. I do like my new JJAT7s for V3 and V6. jivetrain October 6th, 2007, 12:02 AM My 2006 Pro Tube Twin came stock with Fender/Groove Tube rebranded Svetlana 6L6GC's. To me, they are similar to =C=, but I prefer them. The JJ's are tough, but they sound a little dark to me. CancerLeoCam October 6th, 2007, 12:50 AM Winged =C='s for 6L6GC tubes are excellent, pricey... but excellent. JJ's are fine too. Can't go wrong with either. I'd go with ElectroHarmonix for the miniatures and NOS JAN Philips 12AT7WC's for the reverb driver and phase inverter. For a Winged =C= quartet and the miniatures I mentioned consider spending about $135 shipped from www.tubesandmore.com It's worth it. sudancat October 6th, 2007, 09:42 AM My local amp tech carries the Groove,JJs,TAD,Electroharmonics and sovtek tubes. He favors the Groove tubes but I put some in my PV C50 one time and didnt like them, switched for some JJs. I may try and order some Winged Cs 6L6 tubes. Do I need a matched quad or does it matter? Probably wont try JJs in the Twin. Thanks for the input. |
