Cascading runs

A friend's guitar teacher told him the other day that both Brad Paisley, and Keith Urban use a lot of cascading runs in their playing. I can imagine what that is, but I have no clue on playing them. Does anyone know of a simple tab lesson that discribes how to go about playing them?

How about this:

G down F down D down C down Bb up
F down D down C down Bb down G up
D down C down Bb down G down F up
C down Bb down G down F down D up
Bb etc.

The idea is that you play a descending pattern of several notes, then jump up to the second note that you started on and repeat the pattern, then jump up to the 3rd that you started with, repeat the pattern, etc.

This is called a sequence. A cascade is a descending pattern of descending sequences.

Might he be referring to these types of runs where you are playing scales, but using an open string instead of a fretted note where ever you can? I have heard them referred to as a couple of different things....I usually hybrid pick these, using the pick for most of it but picking some of it with my middle finger to give it some snap....

Actually, I think that hits it right on the mark Mark! I'm pretty sure as far as Brad Paisley goes, this is what he meant. Thanks!! It would be really cool if you lived closer, so I could take some lessons!!

I'm glad you dig it!

The world is getting smaller with the internet...while I can't charge for long distance lessons, I do write a weekly blog with free video lessons on stuff like this...if you go to http://blog.markwein.com you can check out some of the lessons...it works great as advertising for local students but anyone can check it out.... there is also a subscription box that you can use and then the lessons get emailed to you as they are published....I am also open to suggestions for upcoming lessons, so if there is something you want to know and I think I have something to teach just email me and I'll work up a lesson!
