Hey JohnnyCrash - I'm picking this up tomorrow...cacibi August 16th, 2007, 11:48 AM http://www.3rtechnology.com/Misc/Photos/RCA_1.jpg Think it has potential? cacibi August 16th, 2007, 11:51 AM http://www.3rtechnology.com/Misc/Photos/RCA_4.jpg http://www.3rtechnology.com/Misc/Photos/RCA_5.jpg cacibi August 16th, 2007, 12:46 PM Looks like it's the 15-watt cousin of the RCA model MI-12155 PA Amplifier? tiktok August 16th, 2007, 01:53 PM I thought about picking that up for a side-by-side comparison with my Univalve. cacibi August 16th, 2007, 01:54 PM I thought about picking that up for a side-by-side comparison with my Univalve. They'd look good together - that's for sure! jhundt August 16th, 2007, 02:06 PM I don't presume to know what Johnny will say, but I would sure like to get my hands on that beauty! The photo has a lot of flare, it's kinda hard to read the knobs. But the last one on the right looks like it says "Fever"... that's the kind of knob a guitar amp needs! JohnnyCrash August 16th, 2007, 02:08 PM Nice bircage chassis... looks cool with that old RCA logo on it. I am very jealous... What are you going to build in it? cacibi August 16th, 2007, 02:16 PM Not sure - wondering if it's possible to convert for any decent guitar use in it's current form. Seems like I would need to (and by this I mean pay a tech to) add 1/4" jacks for guitar in and speaker out. I'm wondering too if I can have my tech change the impedance selector to some sort of slide or rotary switch. It looks like you can change the output impedance just by moving that wire on the back around to different posts - so seems like it would be easy to convert this to a switch. If it's not useful in it's current state - I guess I could gut it for a Weber kit, will have to check out the chassis dimensions, etc. to see what the possibilities are. I've been craving a Princeton. Would it possible to build one with selectable output stages? Have both 6L6 and 6V6? tiktok August 16th, 2007, 02:24 PM I'd be sure to check it out in its current state before doing some sort of rebuild. A lot of those old PA heads make great low watt guitar amps as is. Of course, regular speaker jacks would make things easier... aznrambo481 August 16th, 2007, 02:25 PM I don't presume to know what Johnny will say, but I would sure like to get my hands on that beauty! The photo has a lot of flare, it's kinda hard to read the knobs. But the last one on the right looks like it says "Fever"... that's the kind of knob a guitar amp needs! That's "power" cacibi August 16th, 2007, 02:27 PM I'd be sure to check it out in its current state before doing some sort of rebuild. A lot of those old PA heads make great low watt guitar amps as is. Of course, regular speaker jacks would make things easier... That's kinda what I'm thinking. Would be interesting to crank it up and see what happens with the stock circuit. If it doesn't make a good guitar amp - might look good in the living room to power my home entertainment speakers! cacibi August 16th, 2007, 02:41 PM iPod Shuffle amp? cacibi August 17th, 2007, 06:50 PM Well - I just picked it up. Looks really cool! I was afraid that the chassis would be too deep to sit comfortably on a cab (couldn't tell from the pictures) but it's not. It's a good size actually. And all the tubes look to be RCA Blackplates - so, if they're any good still - that's an extra score. Vol. Knob August 18th, 2007, 02:07 PM Old PA heads can be fun. I have a '50s Newcomb that's one of my main rigs. Still has the original tubes, all RCA. http://www.tdpri.com/telephoto/data/500/medium/DSCF3273.JPG |
