hi guys, i could not stay away from the idea of having a mobile recording studio windows-thinkpad. so i ordered a toneport ux1. it comes with the recording software "ableton life lite". never heard of that stuff. since i am a garageband-guy, i have no idea what to expect. can anyone round here put me on a positive track towards life? does it have some drumloops? is anyone using it in a live-performing scenario?
thanks,
eddie

Ableton (http://www.ableton.com/live6-showcase) is one of the big ones that has been around for awhile. I got the Live Lite version with my M-Audio Black Box, but GarageBand is enough to keep me occupied.

I just acquired Live Lite v6.07 with the purchase of the Axiom Midi Controller. I haven't had time to work with it, but it is geared to the Midi interface. I'm sure the basic reocrding functions are good. The full version of Live is the big dog on the Mac side of things. The limitations with the lite version is that one can only use 8 analog and 8 MIDI tracks. This is not a big issue for the home recordist, as digital bouncing of tracks has no sonic penalty.

Good luck,

Hi Eddie, by now you've probably had a chance to play with Lite. It's really only a demo, but will give you a clue what Ableton is like to work with. Ableton's certainly different from the "virtual mixer" paradigm. For an inexpensive and small sequencer you might check out Tracktion 2. Tha's what I use!

i am out of the albleton-scenario, because i bought a macbook instead of a windows laptop. so garageband is my mobile-studio-software too. all is good.
thanks for the replies guys,
