SF Champ and ohm

Have an opportunity to buy a silverface champ with a 10" Jensen C10Q.
Is that ok? These amps should want 3.2 ohms right?
If the speaker in this case is 8 ohms, what happens? Less volume?
Thanks,

You just need to replace the speaker with a 4 ohm model.

Thanks, but
yes, but I have trouble finding a 10" 4 0hm,
the baffles cut out for that dimension.
Jensen p10R ? Would be very bright?

You could find an 8 ohm power resistor and put it in parallel with your existing speaker to get the load down to 4 ohms. But make sure the resistor is rated to handle the power ...

Weber has lots of 4 ohm 10's to choose from. Good Luck!

A Champ with an 8 ohm speaker in it is an amp that is living at risk, imho. I would not be excited about the prospect of paying for such an amp. IF the output transformer has been stressed by the mismatch, the fault/defect may not show itself until sometime down the road. If a speaker of correct impedance were put into the amp and I was given the opportunity to put the amp through its paces for 2-3 hours, I might have enough confidence in the OT to put money into the amp. Otherwise, imo it is time to keep looking for a Champ that has not been mistreated. Champs are not as tolerant of impedance mismatches as are the other Fender amps. It wants and needs to see that 4 ohm load...no less, no more.

I have a Jensen MOD 10-50 (4 ohm 10" speaker) in my Champ and like it quite a bit.

Another option: a separate speaker cab. I used to run my SF Champ into a 4 Ohm 2x12 cab and it was amazing. Utterly glorious, big, loud if I wanted, hell, I even gigged with it.

Cheers, Tim

I have that Jensen in my Champ, too; it sounds great. I also tried a Weber alnico Sig, but like the Jensen much better.
