Here's my No 1 workhorse

Highway One, soon to be installed with Fender Nocasters.

I've played the frets of this thing every day for the two years since I've had it. I installed the Wilkinson brass comp saddles with the blackguard last January. Researching refinishing, which may well take place in the future. Trouble is, I'm too busy playin it to do the mods. I've written heaps of songs on this baby. I think that's why I love Teles so much, tunes just come to me on them!

Hey Ole Fuzzy, thanks. Coming from the grand patriarch of TDPRI that means alot. (Of course everyone's thoughts here are super-important; we're one big brotherhood/sisterhood!)

That photo was taken right after it was refretted by John Carruthers, who helped Fender design the AV52RI (which is what she started out as). I was nervous taking it into his shop, because it had been so heavily modified, but everyone there really dug it. It's hanging on my shoulders as I'm typing this.

For a few years now, my Highway 1 Tele recently fitted with bigsby, SCN pickups and 4-way switch was my number 1.

I just finished my black Tele partscaster and the Brierly pickups (local in Australia) really roar. This Tele will rival my guitars with humbuckers in terms of hard rock applications.

However, I just ordered an SD Lil '59 bridge pickup to put on the highway one. At the moment, it's a tie between the Highway 1 and black Tele partscaster.

Hey Mr. Austin, Thanks for the welcome. I stumbled across this great forum a couple of years ago but have since gone through a really ugly period :sob for me:
Anyway, since I haven't built too many guitars but do a lot of engraving. I don't wanna sound like a name dropper so I'll answer you question about who I've sold them to by private email if you wish. The best engraved junk or guitars I've ever done have gone to working players. Check The Dead Pyrates Society in Austin if you get a chance.
Most of the guitars I've done have been Zemaitis replicas so that probably wouldn't be kosher on this sight but I'll throw in a few pictures and fade the heat just for you.
THIS particular guitar ended up in Japan and I later found it on a webpage in some collection or something (communication breakdown). The thought of no on playing it kind of breaks my heart. If this is some investor waiting to make great gains I hope he isn't holding his breath!

Yes, the case was purchased from an ebay vendor that I have bought several other cases from. His name is Al Molinaro (sp?), and I think his ebay member name is "largeal". He sells a lot of quality repro cases. That particular one ran me around $200.00 plus shipping.

Hi Colonel,

I had pretty much the same model and loved it! I was living in England for a year and was looking for a budget acoustic. Someone had a new Peal JC Deluxe with custom appointments, three-way amplification, the works, for $150. I loved that guitar, but had to sell it on consignment before I left. Unfortunately, the shop sold the guitar and kept my money. I sure do miss it!

By the way, maybe my brain is going fuzzy, but when I was looking up the guitar on the internet, I thought I came across you or someone with a similar name as an official endorser of the guitar. Was that you?

octatonic

Left to Right:

1. Goldtop tele I posted before. I need to change the pickups- the hotrails is too OTT in this guitar. Might go to Bardens.

2. '87 black Kinman Blueprint Tele with Duncan Hotrails and Duncan Vintage stack, macassar ebony fingerboard.
I've owned this one for 17 years- it has been used more than any other guitar, been used on loads of albums- the hotrails in the bridge suits it really well. It is routed for 3 pickups, like the pearl one, but I prefer it with two. I've had all sorts of pickups in it- Kinmans, old Bardens (which were great and I should have kept) but I need it to be versatile- from rock to blues to heavier stuff.

3. '88 'pearl' Kinman Blueprint Tele with Duncan Vintage stack in neck and bridge, Kinman Belltone in the middle. Great balance between the pickups, lots of spank- has a killswitch between the pots for raygun effects.

Enjoy.

Greetings, can't think of a better way to say hello than show my Tele's, pretty hard to number, but I guess this would the batting order;
'01 Amer, pro refinished from Natural all Vintique hardware & Lollar Vintage pup's
'95 CS Jr. reversed control plate & Tort.gd w/ creme covers
'07 Hwy 1 special run of 150, Callaham bridge, wired control plate & guard
'01 '69 RI Thinline Callaham/Fralin pup's, bridge,& knobs, & creme pearl guard

PS IMHO the new limited run of the Hwy 1's are killer, huge bang for the buck, they are stock with CS Nocaster pup's, and pretty good hardware, I'm just stuck on Callaham. Anyway, a week late but at last I got my post feet wet.

On the left is my number one Number One, a '93 CS gold sparkle with the Singularly Greatest Neck In The UniverseŽ. It has a Callaham switch plate, guts, knobs, and bridge, Glendale "Twang" saddles, a Hipshot D-Tuner on the low E string, and 2 oft-maligned yet unsurpassed Barden pickups. It also has a pimpin' black sparkle pickguard made by Pickguardian. The body is poplar, so it has it's own particular quality that works really well with the chunky C-neck. I bought it sight/touch unseen, and loved playing it ever since.

On the right is my number two Number One, a 2001 CS Nocaster RI with stock p/ups, dents and bruises (although I've added plenty of my own). It also has a Callaham bridge and saddles, and rings like a bell.

Both of these Teles are like family members in my house, so much so that one year my family took them on vacation and left me at home. Talk about rejection.

Both were used extensively on my new soon-to-be released CD (shameless plug, that), but more about that in post #1000!

Here's the money shot of my stock '96 Tex-Mex Tele Special.

Features a 5-way switch and vintage hardware. I can't figure out why they only made these for a few years in the late 90s, it's an incredible guitar. I haven't had Tele GAS since I bought it. (Well, maybe for a Nocaster, but that's out of my price range right now).

I concur with D-rock on the Tele Specials.
My '94 looks very much like his, Sorry I don't have a photo but have a new camera so will post up my Teles soon. Mine is a real fine player and was a complete surprise when I picked it off of Ebay.
I had no experience with the TBX and think the five way and coil taps are a plus!
Bargain Teles and would enjoy having another one.
Great neck as well.
Good luck with your projects!

It actually sounds quite nice, so easy to use, very clean and easy to move around for "basement use". But ........ just took advantage of the MA free tax weekend and no payments for a year at GC and picked up a Vox AC15. Man , it sounds great thru this !!! I went in to get the AC30 but it was way too much amp for my needs so settled on the AC15. Saved myself $400 too:cool:

Regarding the B-bender, may I suggest to simply take your time making the decision - play the guitar for awhile; eventually it will tell you what it wants.

Got lucky, I guess. The original owner 'wanted something different' so he stripped it, routed the edges and painted them black, and painted the aqua on it. I thought it was so ugly it was beautiful, so I left it. The fretboard was seriously dirty and rutted, so it was sanded out and refinned some years ago when I had it re-fretted.

I honestly can't choose between the heavily upgraded Squier or the '86 MIJ Esquire. Both are amazing. The Esquire wins on cool-factor though but the Squier is super comfortable and sounds amazing through the Bare Knuckle Pickups.

It is a Carlo Robelli clone of a Gibson ES5. I changed the pickups to Tom Short Sweet 90s (www.tomshortshandmadepickups.com), added an on/off switch for each pickup on the upper bass bout, added a GreTsch Roller-Matic Bridge, a Chet Atkins Wire Bigsby handle, and the three knobs on the lower treble bout originally were individual volume pots that now are individual tone pots and the pot on the upper treble bout is now a master volume instead of a master tone. It is an awesome guitar and has the best neck of any guitar I ever played.

Here's my 70s Ibanez Tele Deluxe ripoff with an SD Pearly Gates in the bridge. I'd been thinking about a Deluxe for a while when I found this one for $250. It's got a thick poly coat, which I'm not crazy about, but it still sounds phenomenal. I can't stand the black trussrod cover at the headstock - I took it off at one point, but that was worse. Other than that, I absolutely love this guitar. It plays and sounds just like me. No strings in this pic b/c I'm about to upgrade the tuners.

Kluson Deluxes, round string retainer, matte black 1 ply pickguard, Fender 3 saddle bridge, Electrosocket jack, CTS and CRL electronics with cloth wiring, dome knobs...

I'm thinking about maybe getting some Don Mare pickups for it, I think I've fallen in love with Jim Campilongo's bridge pickup tone and I'd like to shoot for something similar to it.

The purple thing is a DOD tape echo pedal, mostly used to keep the guitar from sliding around in the generic tweed case.

Under the guitar in the notebook is a letter from Holly Gatton with one of Danny's picks taped to the inside. I got Buddy's autograph last weekend, he played the guitar a little bit too. Anyone have any ideas about how to preserve it? It seems that my best bet is just to use a spray poly, starting with VERY light coats and building upon that.

Ah, a 70s USA Deluxe...very nice indeed.

I guess that my 1975 Thinline is no my #1 Collector Tele.

That's a really cool guitar.

Mine's a '77. It's my main guitar. I'm really thinking about picking up a used MIM. In a moment of stupidity, I got rid of my MIM James Burton two years ago. I've been GASsing for another single coil tele to replace it ever since.

don't hate me for this....but i've really been beating the crap out of this one lately. believe it or not, it can twang with the best of em! cheap maple and coil taps, you know! i call it the Mardi Gras Special.

Then I will post an update

My doublebound 60's Custom replica (my first ever partscaster) will always be No. 1 in my heart,
but over the last few weeks I have hardly touched any other guitar besides my BAJA:
