Tony474 August 3rd, 2007, 08:28 AM The stock pickups on my AV62RI Custom Telecaster sound OK but are very weak in output compared with all my other guitars. I plan to install Kinmans. Now, I'd assume that the AVn-60s set will get close to the character of the stock items, but I'm concerned about the output level. The alternative is the Broadcaster set, which will presumably be stronger but darker in tone.
Anyone here installed either set in this particular model, and if so what's your opinion compared with the stock pickups in terms of output and tone?
BTW, I'm specifically referring just to the two Kinman sets here, so with great respect I don't need to know about other makes or types as I have those bases covered elsewhere.
Wayne Alexander August 3rd, 2007, 11:19 AM I've got the Broadcaster set in my Nocaster, but I haven't heard the 60's set in person. All of the Kinmans are going to have more output volume than regular single coils, enough in my case that I can switch guitars from an SG to my Nocaster without changing amp settings. So for your volume quest, either Kinman set will be fine. As to tone, the sound samples on the Kinman website are very accurate, so listen to them and think about whether you want more of a 60's tele sound (a bit thinner and sharper) or a 50's tele sound (a bit ballsier). For what I play (Stones, Beatles, Tom Petty, CSNY, Traffic, other classic rock stuff) the Broadcaster set is perfect.
JamonHamon August 3rd, 2007, 12:30 PM I had the Avn60s bridge it sounded just like the Kinman sound samples
If you have a Vox AC30cc with Alnico blues or a Victoria 45410
with the kinmans you'll have the best sound around
It nailed the Pete Anderson Guitars and Cadillac sound
and it took pedals very well

fenderix August 8th, 2007, 07:41 AM I've had the Kinman AVn-60s in my '62 RI Custom for years now and they're staying there. A marriage made in heaven ... They're airy, have great dynamics and their output suits me fine. This particular set was designed to mimic the best qualities of an original 60s rosewood board Telecaster - without the 60 cycle hum.
I recommend them! As always, no affiliation to the manufacturer - just a happy customer.
Best of luck with your P/U shopping, Tony474!
Tony474 August 8th, 2007, 08:08 AM Thanks for your contributions, guys - particularly the deep, meaningful and closely-reasoned one from Richard in Brisbane. Oy, oy, oy, vay, vay, vay!
Having one AVn-Blues and two Trad Mk II sets in three Strats already I don't need convincing of the excellence of Chris's products. But I think your comments have steered me towards the 60s set for the Tele, if only to maintain its sonic character compared with another Tele I have that's fitted with a GFS combination of Fatbody neck and Alnico Vintage 50 at the bridge and a four-way switch.
However, my purchase is going to have to wait a while now as I just scored a brand new set of Bare Knuckle Slowhands for a fourth Strat at a bargain price on eBay.
Thanks again and if any further relevant comments are prompted they'll be welcome.

They used to have older Kinman Belltone pickups in them- which were good but not the same design as his newer pickups.
graham232 August 9th, 2007, 03:59 AM I have a Broadcaster set in my '52 style partscaster. Very pleased with the results. I have tried a CIJ '62 Custom with the same pickups and while they were great, maybe too fat!
I have heard of people combining them, I think a Nocaster bridge with a 60s neck.
