Anyone on talkbass? Finding it a little confusing.

Hope this post is in the right place, its not really a bass post.

Ive joined the talkbass forum today, looks like lots of good info there but my goodness is it spread out! So many forums to search.

Seems to me the TDPRI has it at about the right level, enough different places to go without splintering everything up too much. makes me appreciate it here.

Maybe its just me, correct me if Im wrong. Perhaps its just because Im a newbie.

Back when I was getting into upright bass, I joined Talkbass and participated in a few threads, but I guess I'm not as much of an enthusiast as most of the guys/gals over there.

Nowadays, the bass forum here is pretty much enough for me!

Cheers, Tim

I like their thread scroll-over preview feature. It's an easy way to learn more about the thread's content without having to load the page (yes, I'm a dial-up customer.)

+1

I'm a member of TalkBass, but I don't go there very often. It's got some good gear reviews and such, but for my level of bass playing, I find the practicality of the Bass section of TDPRI more than sufficient.

They do break things out into very specific sub-categories.

with the posting volume over there - it has to be categorized ... It's a fairly logical setup though. Another site worth looking at is BadAssBassPlayers.com It's a low key spin off from the old Dudepit. Some really high quality folks hang there.

The Dudepit is still a great site despite a few problems there recently, most of the trouble there was caused by people that wanted the owner of the Pit to fail. I like the atmosphere here at TDPRI, I like the fact that you keep the forum civil. I'm a moderator at the Pit and I know how tough it is to keep the peace. Keep up the good work guys.

Talkbass is cool because of the high volume of traffic. Threads can get big in a hurry over there. if you need info on anything bass, you'll get it there big time. This forum has a "small town" atmosphere to it.

Musikman7 and broadcaster - couldnt agree more!

This forum is of much more manageable size info wise and more civil and friendly than any other discussion site ive ever seen.

Also any thread I post on talkbass sinks without trace after about two hours. Probably because most of my threads are stoopid beginners questions.

cheers,
Steve

Most of the time when I go over there I mostly stay in the bass secion...and I use the search a lot when I'm looking for reviews on stuff. But a lot of the reading has to be done between the lines.

I agree completely. I'm a member over there, and IMO, it's a really valuable resource.

Keep in mind that this site (TDPRI) is centered around one model of one brand of guitar :!: (even though we have all the wonderful subforums generously provided by the Webmaster. And we do occasionally talk about other brand[s] from time to time.)

But talkbass.com is for everything bass-related: electric, upright and other. It would be rather like having a site called "guitartalk" or something. The amount of traffic over there is waaay more than what the TDPRI sees, and it covers a much wider area of topics. That said, I like the TDPRI just fine as is. :-)) All IMO, and just FWIW. Hope it helps, CS :-)
