I saw this amp about a month or so ago and really liked it, but for some reason or another I decided to think about it. The next week I came back to the store on a mission, to by the amp. It would have been one thing if it were already sold...but it wasn't, some dude was sitting there playing it in the store.
So I casually circle the store, pretending to look at other stuff, always keeping my eye on the guy, waiting for him to get tired of the amp so I can move in and make the kill. BUT no...he takes it up to the counter and walks out with it. CRAP! You snooze you loose I guess.
SOOO I am back in the same shop yesterday and what do I see....that little vibrochamp. I guess the last owner didn't agree with it. It only took about 5 seconds to think about it. yay for me!
I am just loving the sound of this thing.
JohnnyCrash June 27th, 2007, 12:46 PM That thing look very clean in that photo!
That would have sucked bad if it got away from you. Congrats on that streak of good luck!
What guitar-food are you feeding it (other than a Tele of course)?
TC7 June 27th, 2007, 01:13 PM I can immediately see something wrong with that amp from the photo...!
The intensity knob needs to be on "10"... ;-)
Nice score!!

Sounds like a pretty healthy diet to me.
eggman June 27th, 2007, 02:57 PM Howdy,
The Vibro Champ is my "desert Island" amp (assuming electricity!). They're portable and deliver the best raunch I've ever heard. Using so few tubes, I can afford the best NOS tubes for it as well.
Once again, congrats on your new acquisition. You'll love it!

Texsunburst59 June 27th, 2007, 07:19 PM The VC amps are Gold. They are portable and are AWESOME amps for recording in the studio. Here's my '73 in action.

I've gotta tell you Texsunburst59, you've gotta a kickass collection of gear.
Everytime I see your Les Paul I want to weep like a child:

Thanks Johnny,BUT I REALLY Envy you my man, cause you can build the amp YOU want YOUR way. Man Johnny, if I could build amps, I'd have probably one clone of every Fender amp EVER built. But, since I don't, I have to pay the man and have may local amp guru build what I want and it ain't CHEAP. I guess I should just "Cowboy Up", and learn how to build them myself HUH? LOL. Maybe I should just become my amps guy apprentice and learn how to do it. It sure would save me some cash.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes!!!
I'm telling you, you've got to go DIY. Its really not bad at all once the ball gets rolling. Did you see my thread on my $6 1x12" cabs (not including speaker costs)? $12 for two cabs... that'll save some dough!!
Brother, if my dumb self can do it - ANYBODY can.
I'm a little slow in the head ;)

Trial and Error, Trial and Error, Trial and Error. Right? Eventually you get the hang of it if you don't get shocked to death.LOL

I am exactly like that. Its less like Trial and Error and more like that rat experiment where the rat chooses to get shocked because its so dumb and wants crack. HAHAHA
endzone June 28th, 2007, 01:02 AM Good score Bootsroots. That's a mighty clean lookin VC. I've got a '71 myself but it's not as clean as yours. But it sure does sound good. I have found that my Champs sound best when I'm pushin P-90's thru em.
Califiddler June 28th, 2007, 10:15 AM That is an extremely clean-looking amp. I have a Weber Sig 8 in my VC also, the ceramic version. Sounds great.
VCs are the ultimate home/practice amp. Beautiful tube tone, and if you want crunch, just turn it up! Plus you get the vibrato. Only thing missing is reverb, and they have pedals for that.
The drummer in our band keeps threatening to take us into the studio to record demos of some songs that he's written, country rock stuff. If that ever happens it's going to be my '78 Tele through my '78 VC for the studio, baby!
jjmantele June 29th, 2007, 04:32 PM Very clean grill and logo. The logo actually doesn't look '71 since it has no "tail." Looks like a late 70s logo.
Welcome to the club.

yeah, I noticed that too. After doing some homework it appears this is more likely an '80. I bought it because it sounded great, so I don't really care too much about the year but I'm curious how the folks at GC dated this thing.
after a breif 10 minute internet search, I found several things that would closely date this amp, and none of them point to early 70sas they stated.
Just goes to show you, you need to know your stuff and buyer beware.
lchyi June 30th, 2007, 12:28 PM I have a '78 Champ with a Jensen MOD speaker in it and it still sounds awesome. I bought mine not really knowing about Champs and years,.. not that it matters really ... and what not but there is nothing better than a Champ and maybe a few of your favorite pedals to taste. It's got the cleans, the dirt, and the feel. Great simple amp.
(You still got that gold tele finished by Shovelhead Boots?)
