Another DIY speaker cab

My brother-in-law is a decent woodworker and he's got his master bathroom
all apart, waiting for the granite to be installed. He asked if there was anything I needed from all the now-scrap expensive bathroom cabinets that he tore out.

I showed him Johnny Crash's DIY post and he says that's easy.

So here's what we've come up with. 20hX20wX10d, Jensen C10R. The cabinet will be constructed from 1/2" oak. The debate we're having is semi-open back or closed back with port. I'd prefer a closed back with a port. Can anyone who's a lot better with math than I am give me some guidance as to what size of port might work, and where a good place for it might be on the baffle.

The speaker will be centered on the baffle, the interior back of the cab will be covered with 1" thick foam. I'd love to do a T-Shirt grill cloth if I can find something hilariously dignified.

I'll have pics of the finished product. He thinks he'll have it ready by July 1.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Cool!!

I don't know much about ports, but I know there is some sort of software out there you can download to port her up properly.

What do you think of that Jensen C10R? I'm thinking about a 2x10" cab in the future...

I can't wait to see the pics when you're done :)

What kind of joint technique are you going to use?

there is a cabinet design here http://ax84.com/?pg=corecabinets that you might find interesting. There is a series of e-mails that document it's development that you might find interesting. The design is convertible from open back to close back or ported, depending what driver you have in it. A lot of cool thought went to it.

Truly dignified....nothing funny about it at all.

I'll know when the box is built and the speaker is in! Honestly it was a bang for the buck decision (Antique Electronic Supply has the best price on them). I like the sound of a 10, and of course the cab will be big enough if I want to move to a 12.

There's another part to this project, it involves an old class A tube tape recorder amp.

I'll see where he's at on it Friday or Saturday....I'll try to have some to post this weekend.

And thanks to everyone for their input!

These aren't "dignified," yet funny?

HAHAHA

Amazing what $12 of pine and a few T-Shirts can do :)
