jjlinus May 29th, 2007, 04:55 PM hi,i replaced the neck pick up (Fender standard) on my tele that was passed away, putting on a di marzio twang king i've buyed on ebay.great pick up with a great sound but...now the middle position play stiff with no bass or middle tone, only trebles with a lower volume.what happened?i'm worried 'cause it was my n° 1 for gigs and i prefer middle position for rhythms.someone of you can help me?thanks!
RomanS May 29th, 2007, 05:03 PM Sounds like you wired the pickups out of phase - you just need to swap the two wires on one (and only one) of the pickups!

thanks, romans, but i don't understand.the twank king has three wires,i've put black with black, white (or yellow?) with white and the third under the control plate 'cause i mean it's for mass.i am wrong?
RomanS May 29th, 2007, 05:23 PM Well, I'm no expert for the Twang King pickup, but your description of the tone in the middle position sounds very much like it is wired out-of-phase - not all pickup makers wind their pickups in the same direction, and use the magnets in the same orientation.
Leave alone the third wire (the ground wire, maybe it's a seperate one from the pickup cover, in case you want to use a 4-way switch?), and just switch the other two wires (black and white), this should give you a normal middle position sound.
RomanS May 29th, 2007, 05:26 PM BTW, I just checked the DiMarzio homepage, they say the Twang King has only 2 conductor wires?
jjlinus May 29th, 2007, 05:36 PM the problem is that i've cut the wires of the standard pick up and attached the two wires to the di marzio's wires.yes it has three wires,i don't know why.now what can i do?i feel like you can resolve my problem!
RomanS May 29th, 2007, 05:40 PM Well, just give it a try and do as I said, swap the hot and ground wires from the pickup (and check where that third one is coming from - maybe it is soldered to the metal cover of the neck pickup)?
I think that there is quite a big chance that this might solve your problem...
jjlinus May 29th, 2007, 05:50 PM thanks,my friend,tomorrow i can say you what happened.thanks again!
jjlinus May 30th, 2007, 11:11 AM hey, romans, you resolved my problem.i rewired the pick up(white on black and black on white ???)and my girl now sounds sweet again.if you come in italy, let me know,so i can offer to you a good italian dinner and a gig with my band.
