Size of strat vs tele pickup?

Seems simple but...I've got a MIJ JD Tele with strat pickup at neck position. Is it the same width as tele neck pickup? If I changed to another colour tele pickguard - I know I'd need one with height adjusting holes to side - would the pickup hole fit!?

Anyone done the same?

Strat neck pickups are bigger, so you'll need a pickguard cut for a tele neck pickup. The pickup cavity will be plenty big, so don't worry about that one.

I'd remove the original pickguard and use it as a template to mark the new one, then enlarge the hole in the new one and drill two holes for the pickup screws.

Or I'd just leave it as it is.

D'oh! I don't know why I read into the post that he wanted to use a tele neck pickup instead of the strat neck pickup.

... unless you remove the cover from a Tele neck pickup (see numerous other threads). :wink:

On the MIJ JD Tele the strat pickup loses the tone control on 5 way switch's fifth position - it's full treble and too thin, but in the other 3 positions wherer you can roll off the treble (apart from the bridge pickup only) it's genuinely interesting and warm...The pickups sound really good through my Tech 21 Trademark 60 but you can't help wondering what some Custom Shop ones would sound like.
