I have a swamp ash 1 piece body telecaster wich(plugged and unplugged) is a bit bright and I would like to tame.Wich pickups would "correct" this? I have Antiquity on neck and STL-1 B on bridge.
Another way to achieve it?

Thanks.

Duncan AlnicoIIPro. Alnico2 magnets have a smoother top end response than the usual alnico5. Still chimes and sparkles and grunts and sounds like a tele, but just not as piercingly.

Dimarzio Virtual Vintage noiseless tele pickups are also alnico2, BTW. I've got one (the regular output model) and it has a very similar tonality as the Duncan alnico2. It's a good option if you want to try a noiseless pickup.

Call Don Mare, he will wind you a set based on what you are trying to achieve.

The Duncan Jerry Donahue is also worth considering. Customer of mine has one in a very bright ash Tele and it really sounds good, much better than the nocaster pickup that was in this particular guitar.

Change the capasater(s) before changing pickups. This is a much cheaper way to alter the sound of your guitar. Go to Deaf Eddie's website and you can learn more about this. I'm sorry I can't be of more help to you . I'm not that techinecally estute, but I do know this dose work.

Not to be a smart-@$$, but have you tried using the tone controls on your guitar and/or amp? Good Teles ARE bright and cutting...and those are good pickups!!

"Plugged or unplugged is a bit bright"......Pickups wouldnt change that or a different cap. Sounds like a change to different strings(size or brand) would be the answer or may be the saddles.......Now if its just plugged and is bright, cap would the first place to start and then if not happy, any of the SD pups like the Donahue,5/2,alnico IIs, or the vintage would be my next choice.
OR, try backing some treble off on the amp and add more bass.

Thank you so much for your advice.

I change strings first from Slinkys 09 to Dáddario 010,a bit bright still but less.
I cnahnged bridge after that. The guitar came with a 60´s stylesteel made I guess and replaced it by a brass saddles 50's style.A bit bright still but improving.I will try original pickups height adjustement( lower from the strings will tame the brightness?).
The guitar has a big natural sustain which i like and a easy to play neck....

You could always get a different guitar! Seriously, a great Telecaster is exactly how you describe yours. Bright, easy to play neck, big sustain...what else do you want?

You could change your pickups out for humbuckers but then it wouldn't really be a Tele, would it?

Maybe you should trade it for a Les Paul with fullsized humbuckers??

You've got the dream spec'd Telecaster with great pickups...what's the problem?

Willy, I hope you find those brass saddles give you what you're looking for. I find they give me useable bright sound way up there on my Teles, even more so with my ash Nashvilles.
All your moves are in the right direction, a big move beyond that wouldn't necesssarily be a tele.

There is a lot of info on the SD website, including advice and sound clips. Worth checking out as a starting point.
