Peavey didn't have the replacement speaker basket I needed, so I found one on eBay. It was listed as a NEW Scorpion speaker basket. The guy screwed around for a while, but finally sent it to me. It got here today, and I don't think it looks "new." The mounting holes look used... but maybe that's just how the aluminum frames were machined. The terminals look like they've had connectors on them... but maybe the seller was just testing the voice coil or something???
What really gets me is the goopy stuff that has been slathered along the edge of the speaker in about a six to eight inch long area. Is this something speaker manufacturers sometimes do for some reason, or is this evidence of a "fix" or repair (indicating that this replacement basket is not, in fact, new)?

What do you guys think? Thanks in advance. --Sean
