lostpick March 18th, 2007, 07:06 PM How much better does a rack POD Pro NON XT sound over
a POD Kidney Bean at 2.0... NON XT...?
Is the XT series so much better than the previous
generation?
Can a 2.0 Kidney Bean cut it LIVE? Can it switch
patches quickly?
Anybody use it in STEREO?
thru 2 amps?
Chicago Slim March 25th, 2007, 06:37 PM I'm looking into the Floor Pod. It's supposed to be POD 2.0, for live use. It does have the stereo outs. I'm currently useing a Zoom G2. I've used the setreo out, for recording, with the second line to a guitar amp (monitor).
I like the small modeling/effects pedals for a tuner, spliter, effects, and some amp modeling for distortion. I just didn't want to buy a second, exact back-up. I was told that the Floor POD sounded very good. The features are somewhat limited, but I tend to only use about five different sounds anyway.
I've recorded with a PODxt, but I would never use it live. I try to keep things simple, for live use. I'm also looking at the Zoom G2.1ut and Korg AX1500G. Even with a good amp, I like the flexability of new FX pedals.
uncletele March 25th, 2007, 06:52 PM I have a POD XT. Makes a fantastic doorstop. But seriously, someone recently asked me what is the range between a POD XT and a 2.0, and I answered, about 6-7 ft. further with a bit of English on it. Only joking!
Try a real tube amp with good stompboxes; you'll be AMAZED at the difference.
getbent March 25th, 2007, 07:20 PM I have used a 2.0 bean with the floorboard (50.00 on CL) and it worked fine. It uses a standard ethernet cable for switching and keeps the bean up out of the beer (and slobbering wenches! kidding!) I keep it in my trunk just in case... I think if you dial down all the effects they sound fine and as a backup in case of amp failure they are awesome. I've gotten to where I really like the fender black face model into the marshall cabinet... it sounds pretty good (not selling my fender tube amps nor my tone king but....) it is cool to have as a safety net...
lostpick March 25th, 2007, 10:12 PM last week...
set it on Daytripper..
a Vox AC-15 and AC 30 blended
in overdrive...killed the delay..
tamed the reverb....
pumped it up loud..
with a Paul
Balls, raunch, chime and sparkle fest
GAVE ME SERIOUS
LINE 6 LUST
if I could carry that tone around in a
little bean....plug into a twin...
AC 30...Bassman...Plexi tones
with set levels and effects..
already have the midi switcher pedal
but there are many other reasons
I am looking at a used 2.0 Pod...
headphone practice with a CD piped
in..a backup for amp failure..
and stereo effects into two amps
live...like stereo chorus and ping pong delay
for Pretenders and U2 tones...
the resolution on my Yamaha Magic Stomp
is usable live....but....patch switching is
too slow...
dubele March 25th, 2007, 10:25 PM I have the POD 2.0 and have played live with it a few times......most recently, yesterday. I just don't get along with it live. It just doesn't sound open enough. The other guitarist in the band loves it. He definitely gets a better sound than me, but I still don't think it sounds all that great. He has the newer floor model with all the pedals and stuff. It's cool, but again not as open sounding.
At any rate, I have heard people say that the 2.0 to an XT is a vast improvement but I have never heard it first hand.

The Vetta is the only Line 6 product that can do the two-amps-at-once blend.

I have used the POD 2.0 since it came out. I also have belonged to a POD listserv for most that time. There was much discussion about the improvements of the XT over the POD. The consensus was that the XT was an improvement in most models and effects. At the same time, the general opinion was that the POD was still a good value and is servicable in many situations.
If I had the choice for a seriously discounted POD 2.0 with Floorboard, I'd take it over a retail XT board. The reasons are 1) with the Floorboard the POD can switch with the beswt of them; 2) one usually uses just a few settings that can be programmed to be sequential, thus easily accessible; 3) there are some decent models and effects settings on the POD for either studio or live gigs.
I run mine through a Blues Jr. and it sounds good to me, and one has the advantage of running one out to the PA and the other to an amp w/ mic to get good usable tone on stage.
I like the fact that one can program it to be just the tones one prefers in the sequence required to make up to 36 pre-sets available in fairly quick access. I have also achieved good studio tones with it and consider it great tool in the studio for many styles. It has a good tuner as well.
I do have to state that this or any other such device will never sound better than the original article, but that is not the point if you are looking for a versitle tone shaper that gives one many choices in a performance or studio venue.
Good luck,

does it too...
but only has real spring reverb
no effects
giantslayer April 3rd, 2007, 07:50 PM I've heard that the Zoom amp models work better with an amp and that the POD amp models work better without an amp. It had something to do with the nature of how they modeled stuff. The guy who said this (was on another forum) was very knowledgeable, but I'm posting this second hand, so take it fwiw.
