Boosting a Tweed Champ

Recent posting on running a clean boost in front of a Champ got me to thinking about getting one, as I was getting some really good distortion from my tele equiped with a P 90 neck PU, but not quite the grind with a low output Strat. The only clean boost at my local store was a SD Pickup boost, so I bought one, and it did the trick regarding pushing the amp into distortion earlier, but I have a question regarding the Sig 8 speaker in the Champ.

It seemed to really be screaming for mercy when I had a healthy amount of boost going and the amp cranked to 10. Because the boost is capable of 26db of gain, how do you figure out if you are stressing a speaker?(before it's too late)

The pedel seems very transparent and well built. And yes, if you don't need clean, this will make a champ much louder.

I think you probably answered your question right there. When a speaker sounds distressed, it is getting worked over pretty good.

The Sig 8 might last for years, or it could blow tomorrow. Your best bet would be to get a model rated for more power, just to be safe. Boosting the amp is totally cool, but the speaker has to be up to the increased demand.
