or is that an oxymoron? i loooove that sound, but i can't rationalize bringing an actual leslie cab into the house, and my buddy had 2 different little lanilei 's that crapped out on him within 6 months (it did sound pretty good though...) but i'm thinking pedal...heard/have anything good?

I've heard good things about the Rotoshpere but have no personal experience with it.

Readily available: the Boss RT-20 and the Digitech EX-7 (which has other FX as well, but only one at a time).

I've used them both. The RT-20 can get close to an "authentic" Leslie sound, but the adjustment is finicky - most of the settings are pretty wide of the mark, IMO.

The EX-7 is pretty good, but it's a case of having to like the way it sounds because there isn't much adjustment.

Neither one of them will stand up in a side-by-side comparison with a Leslie 147. OTOH, I can't fit my 147 into a gig bag...

I have an H&K Rotoshpere. It sounds almost as good my Leslie 145 and is a lot more portable.

I've heard that they sound better in an effects loop. I use a clean boost in front of mine to get a nice grind from it.

It sounds even better plugged into two amps.

I haven't heard the H&K myself but have heard lots of good things about it.A mate has been chasing one for some time,he has 3 real Leslie's to boot, they sound great but lack the all important portability.

Budget minded reply:

Danelectro Rocky Road (2 speeds, good for the money)

Try some chorus pedals. When cranked, some will do a very convincing rotary effect. Some won't even come close.

These have worked for me:

Boss CE-1 Chorus Ensemble (the big green one)

Ibanez BC-9 Bi-Chorus (what I currently use)

DOD Stereo Chorus (old, light blue one)

I have one of the BC-9s as well. Great chorus pedals and one of the best bargins out there.

Beware of the Rotosphere......as good as it is (I used to own one) the thing that wore me out about it is that it had +4 input/outputs....which always made for a loud hissy hookup......The Boss is cheaper/better/and has guitar level in/outs....

thanks all...i have tried out the rotosphere, and thought the effect was very good, but it was a little noisy and quite pricey for an effect i'll use only some of the time...

i hadn't heard of the boss one yet, but i should be able to find that one locally to try out. thanks for all the help.
