Ok, everybody I'm calling on my brothers and sisters to aid me!!!
It's come that time when I have broken another OD Pedal so it's time to get a new one!
So, right now it's between a Maxon 808 Reissue, an Ibenaz 808 Reissue, or
an MJM Blues Devil.

Obviously I like tube screamers... so what'da you all think?>

My search endet wit the Barber Small Fry. Most "crancked amp" sounding OD I could find.

If you go with Maxon, get the Pro +. It's got a boost switch on it so you have the traditional TS sound, and then you also have a more open, less compressed sound as well.

+1 on the barber, also I'd reccomend a BK butler tube driver.....not tha chandler which is an incorrect copy and sounds awful...bk all the way

I've recently become a believer in BBE's pedals. They have their "Green Screamer" overdrive pedal, that I love.

sorry it wasn't one of your original choices

I was on the OD pedal treadmill for many years, cycled through most of the pedals above, got a Timmy about 2 years ago and that was it.... Cranked amp in a box is the only way to describe it.

I have used a number over the years. I am currently looking at just going with a pair of Duncan SFX-03's but it is not a TS sound. Just a OD amp sound.

My steel player turned me on to these. I retired my FDII when I got one.

Why are you looking at a pair?

If you really want the real deal "Ibanez tube screamer 808" tone, go for the MJM Blues Devil. It's miles beyond any of the re-issues and "I believe" the best of the clones.

I am using 2 as I tend to cover a lot of different styles. I also plug into a number of different amps at times. So I have the current signal go ....

Tuner>Silver Dragon>SD1/OD3>SFX-03>SFX-03>BD2>ED1>DD6>Reflector

I set the first SFX-03 with channel 1 as clean but also as a boost. Channel 2 is just breaking up. On the second SFX-03 I set up channel one as a lower gain plexi gain. I have the second channel full gain (for higher gain leads). The Silver dragon does the more moderate gain Plexi tones (channel 1). I use the SD1/OD3 as a boost into the SFX-03s like you would an amp for more gain and tone shaping. I use the BD2 alone for the unique vibe it has on lower gain settings.

I've tried several Tubescreamers and variants over the years and still haven't found one I like better than the RI Tubescreamer I sent to Analogman to have simply converted to TS808 specs (no silver or gold mods, etc.) and to have some connections beefed up for roadworthyness. The whole thing cost me about $160.00 if memory serves. www.analogman.com
