TDPRI February 18th, 2007, 06:06 PM Another guitar website and I hired a programmer to create TAB and Chord BBCODES and they are now installed and appear on the Advanced Post Form.
I think you'll find them self-explanatory... I hope you will because I actually haven't spent the time to check them out in great detail.
Play around with them and see how you like 'em.
Thanks
Paul Green
Leon Grizzard February 18th, 2007, 06:12 PM Thanks Paul; looks like it will work fine. Just have to remember to use typeover instead of insert. You take such good care of us.
Larry F February 18th, 2007, 06:43 PM Leon, can you put something up for us to look at?
Leon Grizzard February 18th, 2007, 07:51 PM One fretboard diagram seems to work fine. Here is the 5th mode of D harmonic minor:

Nope, not working so far. Wherever I put an "X," it moves those "fret" lines all out of whack with the "open strings." :sad: I'll keep playing around, maybe in the "test forum" and let you know.
Thx, CS
If you don't change to type over you can delete the extra dashes manually. But that's not right nor good. Paul

You need to hit the "insert" key to switch to "typeover." That I have done so does not appear anywhere that I see, as it does in WordPerfect, but it works.

Chris I know you are on a Mac. Are you as well Leon? I'm trying to figure out why it's working with me. I'm using Firefox. I'll try IE.

Chris S. February 19th, 2007, 01:21 AM Hey Paul. Yes, I am on a Mac, running OSX 10.3.9. I tried viewing this thread with four different browsers:
- Firefox 1.5.0.7, which is what I normally use
- Safari 1.3.2
- IE 5.2 for Mac
- And even an old version of Netscape 7.2
I also tried a variety of fonts, both fixed-width and variable.
In Firefox, I have the problem I described.
In Safari, it was better, but the frets on the "open strings" still don't align perfectly.
In IE, NOTHING showed up in the boxes marked "Code" – nada, zip, zilch. :?: Very perplexing.
In Netscape, same as Safari: better, but still not right.
I dunno if that helps, but that's what I got. :neutral: Thanks for all your hard work, CS :-)

This should be an E7.
Tried to insert a new tab code below, but it didn't work.
Instead I copied the first code, pasted it below the E7, and made my changes to an A7.
PC with XP, and Firefox.
EDIT: Tried it again, and this time I was able to insert new code below the first one, by clicking the "Add guitar chords" icon...

Next time you click the chord box look and see how everything has run together. Manually add a return at the beginning of the fretboard lines to break the tags from the fretboard (I'm not sure this is necessary but it's what I did) and then add double manual returns at the end of the line where the || for the "nut" representation is to break it into separate lines. Don't let there be two line spaces though. It will show up just like it looks on the message post box.
I'm working with the author of the mod to see if I can get this fixed.
Thanks
Paul

stevieboy February 19th, 2007, 12:07 PM The spacing problem Chris points out is obviously because on computers each character doesn't have the same width, and the dash is short compared to most of the other characters including the x. I played around a little and found that for me, Mac with Safari, the = and the # are the same size. Here's three varitions, I think the first might be the most easily read. Of course on other systems it might be totally off.

TDPRI February 19th, 2007, 02:46 PM = and # are not the same size on PCs and so your fret bars don't line up all neat or anything at all.
On my PC the standard dashed version with a middle X lines up perfectly.
I'm waiting to hear from the guy that made the BBCODE for us.

Too bad. The = sign makes it look like I use really heavy gauge strings!
Leon Grizzard February 19th, 2007, 02:59 PM With some fonts the symbols are equally spaced - courier and courier new for example. If you use them in your word processing program, then copy and paste within the code marks, it should keep the spacing. That's why I was distressed when ChrisS told me my posts using that method are scrambled on his computer.

Well, I hope I didn't cause you too much distress, Leon! :oops: :wink:
But just so you guys will know exactly what I'm seeing, I finally took the time to figure out how to do a screen capture (it was simple, of course; DUH). Leon, I took this from one of your posts in the "minor" thread:
http://home.comcast.net/~restless314/screen_capture_1.jpg
As you can see, it's pretty much garbled beyond usefulness. :neutral: Again, just FYI. Hope it helps, CS :-)
Big Tony February 21st, 2007, 05:33 AM you could then do this to show muted strings

Great idea! That also makes it possible to show alternate tunings:

B||===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|=== |
G||===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|=== |

G||===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|=== |
D||===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|===|=== |
Now..how about muted strings in an alternate tuning... :twisted: :smile:

The dialogue box pops up, so maybe you have popups blocked at the office?

I can ordinarily override the popup blocker by holding down the control key, but not in this case, if that's the problem. I guess I could just work at work, instead.
