What Humbucker for a 'Keef '?

Hi Guys
I'm setting up a Squier Affinity as a "KeeF' clone mainly for fun, something to do etc etc.
What cheap readily available neck humbucker do you recommend and what bridge should i match it to?
I played around last year with a humbucker but the output difference between it and the bridge made switching a problem as volume changed big time.
Could changing pot values/ cap values and wiring sort this out or do i need to match the pickups?
any help appreciated.

I believe Keef uses a Duncan '59, which are readily available and cheap used. I match mine with a Duncan Jerry Donahue bridge pup, and it's Fat Tele heaven.

Make sure the one you get will make the guitar play slightly out of tune , and never let you end a tune together with the other guys.............................
Sorry !

GFS Alnico PAF and GFS 50's TC Alnico for the "Micawber" look and tone on a serious budget. You can probably get both of them new on ebay from GFS for about $60. IF you want to go for the 70's tele custom look, GFS also sells a pickup that is supposed to sound like a 70's Fender Widerange humbucker, but will fit in a regular humbucker slot (no personal experience on this one). When ever you put in a humbucker in the neck of a tele, I would highly recommend replacing the 250K pots with 500K, otherwise the humbucker will sound like mud and will not have enough top end sparkle.

I put a GFS Alnico PAF in my Affinity Tele that I "Keefed". Sounds great.

Amy Duncan PAF style pickup should be fine. Try the Seth Lover.

Hi Spankdplank
thanks for the info - i've been to the GFS website but not sure which pups you mean, is ith the vintage59 Alnico PAF and the repro 50's Tele bridge as there seems to be alot of "PAF Alnico " humbuckers and as many 50's Alnico tele pups.

Veitchy,
thanks for the input, do you know what price these go for as i'm on a tight budget?

Thanks

I'd recommend an AlNiCo II for the neck spot, but AlNiCo V sounds great as well.

A2's are more mellow.

As far as which pickups to use, if you can find a bargain on a Gibson '57 Classic, I'd highly recommend that... otherwise GFS pickups are insane. They sound AWESOME and the tiny price doesn't fit the tone you get out of them... their PAF style pickups don't say what kind of AlNiCo magnets they use (probably A5).

I went super lo-fi, low budget on my "Keef" and used an Epiphone "vintage style" AlNiCo humbucker I had lying around:

Fingers,
Lovely pics - but i'm going to leave my 52RI as is - well apart from pots, switch etc etc.. The Affinity is exactly what i wan t to do too!

Johnny
cool guitar :-)
I think with your recommendation and i haven't heard abad word about GFS i'll order one from them - seem to be best bang for buck!
Thanks for all the help and i'll post pics when done.
