Just wondering if anyone has done an A/B on Jensen RI versus Webers. I know Webers are more "authentic" made, but what are the sonic differences.
Thanks

Has anyone compared Jensen RI's to Webers?Steve McGinnis February 8th, 2007, 12:25 PM Just wondering if anyone has done an A/B on Jensen RI versus Webers. I know Webers are more "authentic" made, but what are the sonic differences. Thanks Wally February 8th, 2007, 12:42 PM For my ear, I would choose the WEber over the Jensen RI every time. I also prefer Eminence over the Jensens. Vibrolux February 8th, 2007, 12:57 PM My experience is comparing a RI Jensen C12N to a Weber-reconed '65 C12N. To be fair, once it was broken in, the Jensen RI was pretty decent sounding. But it didn't really have any magical qualities that sucked me in, and it had a tendency to sound grainy when pushed. The Weber-reconed C12N, on the other hand, had magic and not a hint of grain. Glen W February 8th, 2007, 06:39 PM Can't speak for all the RI Jensens, but for me, playing a Strat or Tele, through bf/sf reverb Fender amps I find of the ones I've tried: RI C12N, C10R, P10R all seem to have a weezy, upper freq, Emenee toy horn sound that causes me to turn the treble down in the amp so much as to lose all the joy. My guess is they sound different in a tweed amp. And they would sound different with Humbuckers or P90's. So I'd guess they sound good in amps like Victorias or maybe in SRRI's or DRRI's with a Les Paul, for instance. My '68 DR has a Weber 12F150 - just a nice, strong, balanced tone. Weber Sig 10S ceramic in my '68 Priceton Reverb. Beats most everythig else I've tried, and it's such a deal... In the SR, I pretty much like the CTS AlNiCos best. I've worked on friends' SR's with the RI Jensen P10R's, and can't imagine how to operate a single coil Fender guitar using these. I did try 4 of the Weber ceramic Sig 10S's in my '69 SR, and found it too bright (surprise, huh?), but far better than the reissue C or P10R's. I know there are other Webers that folks rave about for the Super Reverb, but I'm not interested in making an already heavy amp any heavier. Just my opinion, using the above mentioned guitars and amps. Tremo February 8th, 2007, 07:32 PM Weber all the way. If you like a speaker with BALLS, there's no comparison. |
