jonny munksville January 15th, 2007, 05:26 PM I'm tired of the sound of my Kinman Blues set (very polite) and want to try something a bit more gritty. I've been reading about GFS and they seem highly recommended. I was wondering if the Vintage Alnico Staggers or the 60's Greybottom would give me more twang, snap and quack?
MGD342 January 15th, 2007, 10:26 PM I can't help with a review, but when the Boston Blues set come out, I'm tryin' 'em out!
aznrambo481 January 15th, 2007, 10:30 PM if you search GFS on this forum, there will be a bunch of raving reviews about GFS pups in general.
Stratsrgood January 16th, 2007, 04:34 AM I put a set of "Vintage staggers" in my Silver Series Strat and turned up at a music shop so that the owner- a real Strat man could play it. He thought they were the best sounding pick-ups he's ever heard and could not belive what they cost/who made them. I'm going to try a set of the 60's soon in a Mexican LPB, just got to find the time.
120BPM January 16th, 2007, 06:10 AM I put a 'Vintage 62 Boutique' in the bridge of my tele - man that baby rocks!! Compliments the Fend@r 62 re-issue in my neck. But that bridge p/up - oo la la. GFS - great service, fantastic products indeed - very professional all round. I've got some tex mexs' in my strat but want more of a vintage tone. I've heard great reveiws about the "Vintage Staggers" that 'Stratsrgood' has mentioned.
jonny munksville January 16th, 2007, 02:13 PM That's it, I'm getting a set, but can't decide between the 60s Greybottoms or the Premium Vintage Alnico Staggered...I want to sound like Richard Thompson!

Unless you are absolutely set on GFS, give Fender Tex-Mex a try. They are pretty gritty sounding for the blues. The big advantage is you can actually try them out in a Fender Jimmie Vaughan Strat or a 60th Anniversary Standard strat. The Tex Mex strat pickups sell for about $70 - $80 new or you can find loaded pickguards taken off of JV strats.

This is interesting - not that I'm set on GFS but at present I've got a set of tex mexs' in my 96 strat and am fairly happy with them - actually they replaced my vintage noisless and these havent been back in since the tex mex were installed. I've ordered 2 sets offa GFS tonight - these are Boutique Vintage GFS Premium Alnico pickups and Boutique Alnico OVERWOUND Staggered pickups - not to replace the tex mexs' but to try something different. I do recommend tex mex - for sparkle and bite - but if you wish for a deep strat tone - well I think vintage is the way to go - tex mexs' seem a little overwound. I chose GFS over others because I previously bought a bridge p/up for my tele and was very impressed. I doubth that p/up will be changed in a hurry.
aunchaki January 16th, 2007, 11:27 PM I don't have a strat, but have put three GFS pickups in two teles and love them. The "Jimi" Reverse Stagger set has got me wishing I had a strat body around to try:

Jay's a great copy writer. He knows how to sell a product (or at least how to make ME want it). I've not been disappointed by what I've ordered from him.

charlie chitlin February 3rd, 2007, 12:55 PM Love the overwound vintage alnico something-or-others....in my strat.
Great funky tones with the guitar volume rolled off and serious growl when twisted up.
I love it when the guitar volume knob becomes a distortion control.
refin February 3rd, 2007, 01:02 PM I have the hot alnico staggered set,and it is fantastic.
Short Circuit February 7th, 2007, 11:02 PM I just ordered a set of GSF Hot Lead Li'l Punchers for my tele.
Great price and were shipped withing 24 hrs of ordering them. I have read only good reviews about GFS pickups and Guitarfetish.

Tremo February 8th, 2007, 02:31 AM I ordered a pearl pickguard, set of knobs and set of pots and switch from them. Stuff was shipped promptly and it looks to be of good quality. Now, as soon as my set of CS Fat 50s arrive, I'll wire it all up and put it on my Strat.
