Which way up? Feel like such a douche...

Feel like such a douche bag asking this but I have just installed a set of Custom Shop 69s into my strat. I figured that being all the same output thered be no bridge middle or neck per se.

However the neck alot thinner than the bridge? Have I made a mistake, is there a dedicated neck middle and bridge in a set of CS69's if so, how do I know which one is which as they didnt have any coloured dots on the back.

The CS 69's are all identical doesnt matter what spot you put them in.

They sounded thin in the guitar I put them in also a Jimmie Vaugham Strat but it was just that guitar cause I tried 5 sets of pickupsd and they all sounded thin.

Well the bridge pickup sounds really nice but as I move the selector switch towards the neck position the sound just gets thinner and thinner and the output drops.

Could it be my wiring? I basically pulled a set of MIM standard pickups out of a new MIM strat and put the 69's straight in?

I have the CS69s in a Classic Player 60s strat and the neck definately doesn't sound thin...I don't have any great solutions, but I don't think it's the pups. All in all, I think they sound great--good luck getting them up and running.

Sure you didn't wire that switch backwards?? :confused:

Tap them with a screwdriver while plugged in and make sure the pickup you think is the bridge really is.

Yeah no they arent in backwards. There is actually a dramatic volume drop as I go from neck to middle to bridge.

Check your string to pickup pole height.

The location of the bridge pickup being so close to the bridge means that when not fretted, the strings don't get much farther than when fretted...

Often the neck and/or middle pickups have a little more drastic difference in fretted to unfretted distance from the strings to the pickup.

You may need to raise the middle and neck pickups a little higher than the Fender Setup Guides recommend. I raise the middle/neck pickups as high as the strings when fretted on the highest/last fret will allow without hitting the pickup, then I back them down a small bit.

Thanks Johnny, unfortunately its a very dramatic drop in volume, not one that can be rectified through raising the pickups.

I am thinking I might do a complete rewire and see how I go.
