pickguard how to stain...

I just finished a Saga Tele as a fund raiser for a local political group...I'll post some pics later today or tomorrow... depends on time. I painted the Tele with a U.S. flag design. After letting the body cure for a month or so, I noticed that some of the white had faded to yellow... not sure why..don't care at the moment as it looks aged and rather cool. However the BRIGHT white pickguard looks kind of odd on it since the white on the body has yellowed somewhat. I read the string on aging strat knobs etc. I did try the coffee thing. I put the pickguard in a plastic bag with two loads of coffee grounds and even let it set in the sun for over two days after which I opened the bag only to find the pickguard had NOT ben affected at all. Any other suggestions?

Did you add water to the coffee, heat it? Heard tea also. Heard smoking too (have to jimmy rig a sorta cigarette smoker).

The coffee was watered and heated. I'll try tea next... Not sure I want to try the smoke thing... I quit smoking three years ago and I'm still temped at times to pick one up and smoke it...but I don't.

Anyway here's a few pics of the flag tele.

Save yourself some wasted time and get some ReRanch Tinted Clear lacquer.

I actually think you should leave it like that. Not crazy 'bout the whole patriotic display, but it looks quite nice like that in my opinion (Yeah that's right I bother spelling it all out! Nuff this IMHO business!). It looks like a weathered flag.

Thanks for al the comments guys and gals. After looking at it for many hours and having a few friends take a look, I think I'm just going to leave it as is.

Oh... and Happy New Year Everyone!

LOL... My wire snips weren't close enough when I strung up the guitar. I will clip them before I give it away.

I like the way that white paint turned out, what did you use for paint?
