Johnny Isaacs December 18th, 2006, 12:07 AM So I was out Christmas shopping and thought I'd stop by a local guitar store here in Las Vegas and I spied a BOSS OD-3 in the case. I've never heard one of these before but after reading the PAGES of great reviews by everyone on here (Joel...cough cough) and reading that they have been discontinued, I figured I'd ask how much it was.
Without blinking the guy tells me $39 bucks!
About as equally as fast as he told me the price I had my card out.
$43 dollars out the door!

BoB/335 December 18th, 2006, 07:27 AM Sounds like you should have cleaned him out.
Joel Terry December 18th, 2006, 03:50 PM Great deal, Johnny! I hope that it lives up to all of our glowing reviews for you.
I haven't heard that Roland/BOSS has discontinued the OD-3. If so, I guess I need to get out there and start hoarding them.
I can't believe Roland/BOSS is discontinuing the OD-3 unless they can no longer get the OD-3's IC and/or other components. I know Roland/BOSS founder Ikutaro Kakehashi has mentioned in several interviews that this is usually the reason for Roland/BOSS' discontinuation of a particular pedal, keyboard, or the like.
Even so, if true, it's a shame.

mrbdxmpl December 18th, 2006, 11:15 PM Any thoughts on the SD-1? It looks about the same from the BOSS website and they seem to be cheaper? How do they sound?

They sound good but the OD-3 is King !
BoB/335 December 19th, 2006, 08:30 AM I've had an SD1 for years. Sounds reall good on soaring leads. Kinda thin on rolled back rhythm and lousy note separation on all out rhythm. A good $35 pedal. I keep it for a backup.
mrbdxmpl December 19th, 2006, 08:55 AM Thanks...guess it's time to grab an OD-3!

Well I've read that it's been discontinued and it's not in the new Musicians Friend or American Musical Supply catalogs..... Of course there's a lot of stuff that's not in those, but usually they have all the Boss stuff listed.

Stjohn1299 December 19th, 2006, 01:05 PM I don't know, I think they may be ok. Usually when something is discontinued, MF will post a Limited Quantity graphic on the product's page. And as far as the catolog is concerned, it hasn't been in there for awhile (it's been the same page for several months). I think it may not be in the catolog because they already have the ds-1 and sd-1 (I think), and the metal zone on the page. Maybe they wanted a wider variety of boss pedals in the catolog rather than half a page of distortion pedals, especially since the loop station has come out.
I hope they're not discontinued, but if I don't get one for Christmas, I will be getting one from MF on the 26th......just in case.

Johnny, I have to agree with Mark on this one--well, where Musician's Friend is involved, anyway. MF has rarely, if ever, to the best of my knowledge after years of having been on their mailing list, listed the OD-3 along with their usual BOSS selections. I have no idea why, either, especially since more than a few pedal aficionados have proclaimed the OD-3 one of the best-sounding pedals BOSS has ever made.
But you've read it elsewhere, too, Johnny, so I'm not ready to dismiss the discontinuation. I'll check other sources to try to get some verification, if I can.
Geez, what's next? Fender does away with its entire guitar lineup and focuses solely on basses?
