Switching

Maybe this could have been posted in the pickup forum, but it's really more about switching.

I'm doing a 3 pickup tele, and I wanted to experiment with the Brent Mason style. I want to get the same three standard Tele tones, plus add the middle pickup when needed. I know this can mostly be done using a specific 5-way switch (mega or super or what ever), but the blend option (for the middle pup) appealed to me.

I called Joe Glaser this morning to run it by him before I started (he wired Brent's primer-caster). Joe suggested doing it a different way, saying that Brent's set up causes the player to have to adjust a volume control with every switch position change (I'm trying to think that through).

Joe's suggestion envolves a 5-way switch, and placing the blend pot on the bridge pup. I didn't totally follow this idea over the phone, so I'm going to see him today so he can explain it in person.

I'd like to hear opinions from you 3 pickup Tele guys out there that are blending in one of the pups (rather than just a standard 5-way).

I just got back from Joe's and I understand his suggestion now. It does make more sense than the old Mason style switching.
