Decided what the heck, the price is right and lots of folks had more good to say than bad, so I ordered a GFS neck pup, we'll see how it goes!

I've been wanting to order the Repro Vintage GFS neck pup ,but Guitarfetish has been out of stock for a while now. I saw the Standard alinco neck pup thta's a couple bucks less but thought I'd wait a little longer for them to re-stock the vintage since the project it's for is still has much other work needed. Please let us know how you like it.

Yeah, after reading a lot about them over the past several months and then recently digging for info it, seems very few people dislike them and most have very good things to say. Ill be sure and post a review after I get it put in!

I have ordered two sets of pickups from Guitarfetish (GFS).
One pair were the single coil "NEW YORK" retrotones.
The other pair were the hot PAF humbuckers.
Both worked out nicely, IMO.

Jeez Louise! Fast Shipping!

PUs are packed well, in individual boxes, and the diagram shows the HB, SC, and P90, color coded wires.

Also includes the mounting rings, springs, and screws.

Pickups are labeled on the bottom for the neck or bridge position.

Excellent solder job on the covers.

Bridge PU had plenty of hookup wire.

Neck had just enough.

There is also a shield connection to the PU cover.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sound report:
Plenty of gritty tone. To get the most from these PUs, I found adjusting them up highlighted the sound.
Bridge is bright and had to roll the tone back to boost some mids.
Think I should have gotten the "Mean 90", the hotter bridge PU.
Neck PU sounds great with the tone control on 10.
One niggle is these were advertised as humbucking when using both PUs.
Both PUs together sound out of phase, very thin sounding.
I Checked the magnets' orientation.
Found both PUs' magnets are opposite polarity.
Will need to switch the 2 conductors on one of the PUs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Figured I would give em a try in my Heritage 150.

Have the Gibby 57 Classics in it at present, and they are smooth sounding.

Feel like I might enjoy the P90 grit. Had some years ago in a LP Deluxe.

Influences:

Junior Barnard, "Fat Boy Rag".

Freddie King', "Hideaway".

Bob Segar's "Live Bullet" album.

I was just enjoying the GFS Vintage Split in my Tele. I have a set of Vintage 59s and a set of Dream 90s that are pretty good too. Real value for your money.

I have a the Lil Punchers Modern Vintage Tele set. I really like them. I'm going to install a 10k Lil Killer Strat pickup in the middle position soon.

Yep I got it yesterday and here are the first impressions. It is nicely made looks to be built on par with Fender pups, wax potted, plenty of wire nothing spectacular but solid looking. Comes with springs and screws, the screws are such that you can use them for pickguard mount or the type that mounts directly in the pup cavity. I put it in (only took about 20 minutes man Teles are easy to work on!) and got only about 10 minutes to play it as I was pretty busy yesterday. Initial impressions are it is a little less "hot" than the Standard pickup but smotther and more clear. You can roll off the treble a lot more without getting mud. It is also quieter as far as hum goes, I have my Tele shielded so it is fairly quiet but this pickup is quieter still. I'll write more later today or tomorrow after I get a chance to set the height and play it for awhile. I'd say though that so far I like it, not blown away but for sure an improvement over the stock one!

I think they are great value for money when upgrading budget pickups just don’t expect em to sound like the top doller ones because they don’t.
I tried the Bardon knockoffs in a Tele and hated them also the Retrotrons in a
Washburn J9, which I can just about live with for now but they will eventually get replaced.
I love a bargain and I’m no snob about gear but imho these pickups aint what a lot of people crack em up to be.

Well I also think it depneds (from what I've read an your experience seem to show as well) which ones you get. So I got a chance to play it set a tad higher than Fender specs on a Blues Jr with the master and volume both about 4 Mid and Treble at 10 Bass at about halfway. Sounded nice, in the ncek only position with the tone klnopb up clear and articulate, with the tone knob progessivley lower it mellowed out without ever getting muddy, it should be great fro when my guitar teacher tortures me with some Jazz songs! I the middle position it seems to add the "punch" I was missing from the stock Standard pup. Not a dramatic difference but notiocably clearer. All in all for the price it is like an "improved" Mexican Standard pickup, I like it quite a bit and it pretty much meets my expectations. The only thing I wish it was that it is not is a bit louder, there is a more noticable volume drop in the neck and middle position now could it be out of phase? It doesn't sound thin and tinny, hmmm anyway there ya go I feel it was money well spent,

So here is a final update. I had placed a .022 cap in earlier to brighten up the stock MIM pickup. Since I liked this GFS pup but was not "wowed" by it I decided to put a more traditional size cap in. I had a couple of .47mf ones out of an Epi Dot and put one in. man that made a huge difference, the pickup now has much more depth. It mellows out great, and can chunk out rythm very well especially with some gain. In the middle position it was just what I was looking for, tons of punch and twang to spare! Also the slight volume drom I was experiencing has dissapeared. Now I can say for sure this is a great value pickup,
