Strings and Things

I know that they built guitars in the 70's and 80's, and now the guitars are built in Korea and assembled in Memphis (I belive). I saw one recently that was a strat w/3 singles but yet had a tele control plate w/a volume, tone and 5 way. Anyone have or have played one of these and if so what was your opinion? I saw a Mary Kay version and it was really sweet.

Strings and Things built guitars here in Memphis during the 80s, they later changed the name to St Blues.
I know a guy who worked at the S&T Guitar workshop back then, he told me that a lot of the necks and bodies were made in Japan by ESP, I think there was a Schecter connection too, they used Dimarzio pu's a lot back then.
Lot's of folks played these guitars back then, they were well made and set up well.
A friend of mine bought a S&T Tele with a trem bridge and hot Schecter pu's new and played it for years, it was a real nice guitar.
I've got a vintage St Blues bass that I'm trying to sell now, it's as good or better than any Fender bass.
I don't really know much about the new line of St Blues guitars except that they are made oversees and based on some of the old designs.

Strings and Things used to have a pretty good website but it's down at the moment, on the website it said they were going to make an Eric Clapton signature guitar, but then Fender worked out a deal for the EC Strat and they dropped it.
S&T's filed for bankruptcy a few months ago, still have the St Blues thing going - there is a website for that, and the store is still open, but I don't know if they will pull through or not.
Strings and Things used to be "the" music store in Memphis, all the big name guitar slingers shopped there when they were in town, they used to have a lot of cool vintage gear, but things change ....

Strings & Things was probably the first place to send me catalogs for music gear. I have a Strat pickguard assembly with DiMarzio vintage Strat pickups (the model they call FS-1) that I'm pretty sure I got from them. I got a few things from them. Before the internet was everywhere, and I doubt that I had a credit card back then, so it would have been a matter of mailing in a check, and waiting....................

I'd have a hard time doing that these days!

I just bought a new Strings and Things strat copy.
This was made in China.
Paid $80 for it on a "Best Offer".
Quality is decent, but not outstanding.
Black body, with 3-ply white pickguard.
Replaced stock ceramic pups with Mighty Mite Alnico V pups. Also bought a black pickguard & black tremolo cover. Now the guitar is all black, except for the white knobs & white pickups.
I think they call that particular look; a tuxedo strat.
With the Mighty Mite Alnico V pickups (around 5.5K), it has a nice vintage tone. Total cost: $175, but the guitar looks real sharp and sound like a much more expensive guitar.

My good friend John Roth has one. Got it on an endorsement deal. Check him out at http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=107786066. He makes it sound great, but he makes everything sound great.
