Arlo October 31st, 2006, 05:29 PM I am building a Pine Stratocaster after building several Pine Telecasters I figure it's overdue.
I picked up a nice 1 piece Sugar Pine body from Guitar Mill. It came in today and I snapped a few pics before I began painting.

Sprayed two coats of sanding sealer and ran a piece of 600 grit lightly over the body.

Arlo October 31st, 2006, 05:31 PM Then got out the Bayer Aspirin Yellow color I wanted and sprayed a few coats.

So now it's off the the drying chamber for a few days.
I am looking for some advice on the best tremello Strat replacement bridge you guys would recomend. I need a stay in tune system and I do not want to go FR again. I am interested in keeping this vintage looks.
I have been looking at the Callahan and it looks pretty nice. Do any of you use that one?
Any suggestions??
Pete Galati October 31st, 2006, 06:15 PM A pine Strat! Great idea. It's about time someone tried pine for a Strat too.
About the whammy bridge, one of my regrets on my blue Strat built was that I had Warmoth drill it for a floating bridge by Hipshot. And it's not like I ever use the thing! So I probably sacrificed a lot of Strat sound, just to get a floating bridge that I don't use.
I was looking over at Stewmac a couple days ago, and this Gotoh Strat bridge looks very traditional, but I haven't done any research to see what the block is made of. Has anyone here tried this bridge yet?

randyspencer51 April 28th, 2010, 03:50 PM Hi. I believe from what I've read and after talking with Lindy Fralin that the tele and strat stuff at Callaham's guitars is the best around.

Good luck!

randyspencer51 April 28th, 2010, 03:56 PM Arlo! Okay. After looking at your photos I am very impressed. That yellow is killer. I have the Callaham Model T tele bridge on my MIM tele, 2006, ans it is very solid, very bright, and I love it. I also have Lindy Fralin's stock tele pickups. I will also probably get Callaham's tele control assembly to finish off the upgrade.

I have a MIM strat with fralins also, but I got the bridge and block from Killerguitarcomponents.com. It's all solid brass, and I got the 'MegaMass' block. Heavy! Truly resonant and very sweet. Oh, and Stringsaver saddles. Not traditional, so for that you might want to go with Callaham.
mrmorrison April 28th, 2010, 04:34 PM Holy dead thread revival, Batman! Arlo, what became of this beauty?
Arlo April 29th, 2010, 07:09 AM Whoa! I didn't even recognize this as being my thread until I got in here.
OK, the strat body in the photo had some issues and ended up in the scrap heap. The color was perfect though I did like it.
I couldn't just let this Pine Strat build go so I took on a second attempt and ended up with this one.

I used re ranch honey blond as a base and then fender neck amber as a yellowing coat. It gave the finish a very pre relic kinda look which I really liked.

Last known location buried in 10 feet of snow.
The bridge area had cracked so it was unstable like some of my friends.
