Sounds pretty good through the old Oxfords.

Set the Bias at 32ma. Beautiful clean sound.

Probably increase the current a touch,

when I pull the chassis to fix the Tremolo.

Didn't think to check it when it was out.

What speakers do you suggest?

Anyone with experience with the Eminence Legends?

Keep in mind that you probably won't be able to fit ceramic magnet speakers in the top two holes.

David,

The stock Oxfords are ceramics. I 'm thinking the Alnicos would be the tough fit "upstairs".

Any speaker suggestions?

Thanks,

Jamie

Oh, it's got ceramics in all four holes? Usually these amps are either all-alnico or half-and-half. I must be looking at the picture wrong, because to my eye it looks like the top pair have small square magnets and the bottom pair has big round ones.

No suggestions, apart from the Legend 102, just because I'm not familiar enough with the variety of 10" speakers out there to have a valid opinion.

Weber 10F150.

David,

Yes, it has all ceramics. The back pic, lower right, is the replacement Mojo speaker.

Clearance is a problem behind the power tranny. The speaker frame is approx 1/4" from the tran.

I need to pull a speaker to measure the depth of the frame.

The angle of the frame is 45 degree.

Thanks

Jamie

I have one of these here now. (really nice one) I just took a look and, yep....I'm thinking it may be even tighter in there than a Super Reverb.

The Jensen baskets will fit in there fine, and the newer Weber "hot dog" baskets should fit as well. I looked around and I don't have an Eminence here to check out, sorry. I'm thinking the big hole in the Eminence basket will probably allow clearance for the corner of the transformer, but I can't say for sure. Definitely going to be tight though.

My recommendation for best choice would be the Copperheads....if they will fit.

Ted makes special baskets for these tight fits, email him for info.

Great looking amp. If the Oxfords are in good nick and original, and you think they sound good, why not keep them? If you're looking for ultimate volume they might be better replaced so you keep the originals in unblown condition.

But the bad name of Oxfords really came from their later speakers, not these early ones. They might be a bit fragile due to age, though.

The ol Oxfords sound ok. Only problem was they had a 1/2" of dusty gunk in the bottom edge of the cones. Nast-ay.
Judging from the "broken in" condition of the "total package", I'm going with aftermarket spkrs.

I pulled a stock speaker to measure the frame height, 3" from top of mounting rim to the base of the magnet.
Believe I posted the angle of the Oxford frame is 45 degrees.
Measured with an "Angle Finder".

Ted Weber had sent me one of his shallow frame 10A125s, and that clears the power tranny.

Looks like the 10A125 (https://taweber.powweb.com/weber/10a125.htm) on his web page.

Close match to the Oxford frame dimensions.

There is no mention regarding the mounting issues with the Fender combos.

I need to write him and check if that is the redesign of the older P10Qs he sold when he first started mfg.

Angle on the frame of his older, labeled P10Qs is 65 degrees, and the frame is taller.
He used to cut out the frame's webs to fit around the tranny.
Mebbe the reason for the redesign.

'Preciate everyone's help woth my amp!

Fixed my vibrato circuit, and bumped the finals' current draw to 35ma.

Put in all WeberVST 10A125/P10Qs. Found em local on the cheap.

The amp is clean to 4 on the vol.

At 5 it starts to get an edge to it.

6 gets the the finals and speakers smoothly compessing, when you "lean into it".

Tone settings I found best for both singles and humbuckers:

treble at 6, bass at 3. The amp has plenty of both highs and lows.

I found rolling back the tone controls on the guitars, 1/4 to 1/2, helped to add to the mids.

Might increase the value of the stock Mids 6.8K resistor, on one channel.

Now I need a Reissue Verb Tank.
