Finish on a 79 Strat Neck?

Does anyone know if the sprayed finish on a 1979 strat neck is polyurethane or nitrocellulose lacquer? If it is nitrocellulose, can you light sand, clean, and spray nitrocellulose over the existing lacquer to rejuvenate the lacquered neck. This is related to a refret being done, and the original look of the neck is preferred. Thank you for any help that you can give.

Thank you,
Jay

I'm no expert by any means...but I did have a New Natural Ash Strat in 79..w/ a maple board....and the whole thing looked like it had been dipped in a 55gal. Bucket of Poly...nothing like the feel of the older ones w/ Nitro...

My '79 maple neck Strat is poly. Built like a tank too, weighs a ton.
