Roland Cube 60 and iPod/CD Input?

Does anyone out there have an Roland Cube 60 and play backing tracks thorugh it?

It only has one input so how can I do it?
Would I need to get a 2way splitter and put both the guitar and the ipod into the input.
a guitar shop said i should get a mixer for it so that i can control the volume for the iPod and the guitar?

Has anyone solved this problem themselves?
would playing my backing tracks through the amp damage the speaker in any way?

thanks

Unfortunately, the Cube60 does not have an AUX input, so if you do run your backing tracks through it, mixed with your guitar, you will have the modelling distortions, effects and cabinet emulations added to the backing tracks.

I think your options depend on whether you are playing live or recording/practising.

If you are recording, use the RECORD OUT to go to a mixer, and your source for backing tracks as stereo inputs to the mixer. You could use a HI_FI amp, or maybe headpones (connected to the mixer) to monitor the result.

Live, playing loud, you would probably be limited to running the backing tracks through a separate PA amp and speakers. An inexpensive powered mixer or a mixer with powered speakers.

If you use the cleanest settings on the Cube60, you could manage by mixing the guitar and backing tracks into the input of the amp, but you would lose the distortion/modeling abilities of the amp. You would have to tailor the guitar signal with distortion, etc BEFORE the mixer, which nullifies many of the benefits of using the amp as a GUITAR AMP.

hope this helps (some)

thanks for replying.

i dont use many of the effects on my amp as a have a pretty good pedal setup that covers all my sounds.

when you say about the modelling abilities - you mean thats onlyif i juse the inbuilt distortions of the amp etc. but if i use my seperate pedals, the amp should pick up the style of how i play?

for a mixer would i need these? (any others that you could strongly recomend for under £30?)
