I have a '91 Strat Plus and am getting a '92 Strat Ultra tomorrow. The Strat Plus has recently been refretted and is a monster.
Does anyone else gig with these guitars? The Lace pups get slammed a lot, but I tell ya, they sound great, especially with a compressor.
Her'e my Plus:

I used to gig with a strat ultra and for many years I used the Jeff Beck strat with Lace Sensors. The Beck strat is basically the same as a strat plus except it has a bigger neck and an extra pickup. I never hated the pickups, in fact they were great when I used overdrive and distortion because they were quiet and seemed to cut through well. They just didn't seem to have the complexity of a real single coil. Even though I use singles exclusively now, I've been wanting to build a Jeff Beck style strat (surf green, big neck, 2 point trem) and I'll probably use Lace Sensors in it instead of the Noiseless fender pickups in his new guitars. I miss my first Beck strat...I had it at a time when I could only afford one guitar and one amp and was playing out 3 times a week.

Maybe it's time for the low output Stratocaster neck "nec plus ultra" pickup!
I'm really sorry / Tony

I bought my '91 Strat Plus new in '93, it's Midnight Wine/Rosewood with pearloid guard, I removed the Hipshot tremelo spring device (trem tight to body with 3 standard springs now), replaced the Wilkenson roller nut with the later Strat Plus nut (uses bearings to locate strings), currently wired '57 style with CS Texas Specials. As far as the original Gold Lace Sensor pickups go, they didn't sound bad, were clean and fairly hot, but rather sterile sounding IMO, the Texas Specials aren't perfect but I prefer them, they have a sparkly percussive quality I never found with the LC's.

The Strat Plus has always been my favorite model since it's conception. A real workhorse (in my opinion). Though I don't gig, I see no reason it wouldn't hold up to the rigors of road use. I've never broken a string on mine (1991) nor had any problems with it. I've been gassing for an Ultra or Elite for quite some time.
