Yes I have heard of them and seen them, but never actually 'heard' them. Supposedly they're fairly nice. But I reserve a better answer from Mark Davis regarding them. He has said a lot of good stuff about the Strat "red bottoms" in the past.

I have heard the Strat ones but not the Teles.
They had the bell like tones in spades and the piano like baby grand sound on the wound strings.
They are in the earilest 82ri's Teles and Strats.
There is usually a pic in an 82 Strat on Ebay.
Im thinking they might be greybottoms painted red with a clear red paint. Might be all they had until they wound some for that model. That would explain why only the earilest reissues had them.
I always heard rumors these earilest Fullerton reissues used parts left over from the 60's.
Here is a Strat with the red bottoms.

I had a tele neck pickup with red bottom. It came to me in a tele whose pickups had been swapped. It sounded good, but nothing extraordinary, I liked a current OV neck pup better. Looked cool though, but who can see it under there??

interesting.. they look like the same bobbins as the strat (color wise..)
I got them in trade so I guess they'll go in the parts drawer...

Those dont look like Fender Tele pickups.
The redbottoms I have seen look identical to the other Tele ones except for the bobbin color.
These have a completly different look and how the wiring is and wiring itself isnt correct.

they look the same red as the strat set on ebay.. I can't speak of the wiring though...
are you saying the top of the bobbin is red also?

The wires on that pickup are pretty much like the wires on my 77 Tele Custom bridge pickup, IIRC
