Lostheart July 25th, 2006, 05:33 AM I'm searching for a Telecaster bridge (not aftermarket but genuine Fender...at least the bridgeplate)...basically the one that was introduced in the mid-50's with the steel saddles (not the threaded ones and not the ones with the notches on each side) that had a smaller diameter than the early brass ones.
I found a pic on the Fender site, but only of a gold plated one (I want the chrome one).
Does anyone know an online shop that carries this bridge...been looking for days but couldn't find one...

By the way...on the Fender site it says "chrome saddles"...does anyone here know if those are steel or brass?
And...anyone knows where I can get period-correct reproductions of the mid-50's steel saddles (that won't cost an arm and leg!)?

For the bridge plate, I'd usually recommend Angela.com, but they are out of stock now. Other folks sell them too, but the straight steel saddles with no grooves or threads are probably harder to find. I'd recommend going to ebay for those. In fact,. there is a guy on ebay who is always parting out Fender guitars, his handle is reliablefender. he has what you probably want in an auction now this auction:

Lostheart July 25th, 2006, 08:17 AM Many thanks for pointing the auction out to me...I've been checking eBay for a while now but I must have missed this one.
Do you know if the saddles are steel, chromed steel or chromed brass?

The ones like those that came on my MIM '50s Tele appear to be stainless steel. They are shiny enough, and I see what looks like machining marks on the end, which I think chrome or similar plating would have obscured. Looking down into the threads, they are shiny there too. And where mine got a little roughed up on one end, nothing flaked off.
Yes, ebay seems to be the place where one can readily find those. You just have to look closely at the pics, because some of those dealers are ambiguous regarding which Tele they came from.
You could try a Fender dealer, and ask them to order using the part numbers from the parts list for a '50s Tele here (http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/pdfs/50STELE/SD0131202BPg3.pdf). If you do that, the height and intonation adjustment screws, and the intonation screw springs, are separate.
MF sells that bridge plate by itself for $7.99 (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product?sku=361323).
woodman July 25th, 2006, 08:21 PM Mike McBride of Giant Guitars/Mojo Picks can fix you up with a notched (Gatton-style) pat-pending chrome bridge plate with intonated brass saddles for not much money. he doesn't advertise them on his website, but you can reach him at:
mojopicks@aol.com
i plug Mike a lot on this site, but not because i have any interest in his company -- i just like him and think he makes good stuff.

Many thanks...it's always great to know that when information on items like that is sparse (at best) over at the Fender site, there is always someone here who is willing to help!

Thank you, Woody!
It's funny you mention Mike, because I have just bought an old Fender part from him last Friday! A really nice guy with a great service...
He's also selling those bridges via eBay but to be honest...I never liked the look of those "shaved" bridges and compensated saddles.
I want to go 100% vintage.

I have found out now that the saddles of this bridge are chromed steel...anyone knows a place that sells "correct" ones i.e. steel ones?
www.tonewerks.com offers early pre-Broadcaster saddles, but I have yet to find a place that sells those mid-50's steel saddles...
