I've been reading a lot of good things about the Boss OD3. I own an SD1 (Super Overdrive) that I got pretty cheap on E-Bay. I was curious as to the differences in the two pedals.

Difference in OD3 vs SD1Biglebowski41 July 24th, 2006, 01:53 PM I've been reading a lot of good things about the Boss OD3. I own an SD1 (Super Overdrive) that I got pretty cheap on E-Bay. I was curious as to the differences in the two pedals. JonesKY July 24th, 2006, 02:21 PM The OD-3 has more available gain. SD-1 has a bit more clarity (as with a TS) due to the bit of clean signal mixed with the clip. My pref: I like the SD-1 (better if modded for better bass response) for dirt, and a Keeley-style BD-2 or Rat for the fatter sustained stuff. kp8 July 25th, 2006, 03:33 AM OD3 has a fatter rounder sound and more gritty od. Great for mid-scooped Fenders (imo) the SD1 will have less bass and less sparkle and more mids and smoother drive. Go to any big store and try the new BOSS rack where you can easily AB the pedals. The OD3 has a very different eq characteristic. For my purposes the OD3 was a better fit. The character of the drive and the eq profile was more my taste, but it is nice to be able to AB stuff like that. I like the way Boss sets that up. Doc July 26th, 2006, 10:17 PM OD-3 is more transparent and flatter eq to me. I like it as a clean boost. The SD-1 has a tube screamer vibe and I use it in that context. For mild grit I like the OD-3 better. bluescube July 27th, 2006, 07:35 AM I love using the OD3 wiht the gain maxed for a cranked fender amp tone. |
