Buying a strat bridge..is 2 1/16" what I want?

I've seen on fleabay different spacings...though most common is the 2 1/16 spacing. What do I want here? I'm looking to fit it to a USACG vintage style strat body..

Thanks

2 7/32 string spacing is what you want thats the vintage spec the 2 1/16 is how the older MIM standards were made.

I found this on fleabay, but the seller claims it has 2 3/16" spacing...This is supposed to be Genuine Fender '62 reissue...

Would it have 2 3/16"??

FWIW Mark the new std MIM Strats still use the 2 1/8' spacing, I just sold one off of a new 60th Anniversary Strat, which is a fancy MIM Std Strat
Only the MIM 50's / 60's RI's and the Jimmie Vaughan have the 2 7/32" spacing like the MIA vintage style Strats.
Not sure about the MIJ Strats, I've had a couple but I never measured them.

If the seller says 2 3/16" it is probably 2 7/32",that's not much difference there and he just may not have a ruler or tape measure that reads that small.

What type Strat are you wanting to replace the bridge on?

That bridge from guitar parts resource is a USA vintage bridge.

Ringo I have seen guys here report they replaced the MIM std bridge with a vintage bridge maybe that was on Teles only and I got mixed up??

Thanks for the correction.

This is confusing...mostly because most of the auctions don't bother to mention what the string spacing is, or of what origin the bridge is. I would assume that if I got an EJ Bridge/Tremolo unit it would fit the 2 7/32" spacing.

But what about this?

Thats the same bridge as Guitar Parts Resources sells like your other msg same one. The EJ bridge is the same also but it has a block like the Callaham and the way all 54-69 Fenders were made..

ahhhh!!!! TOO CONFUSING!

:x

Lets say I wanted a Fender(stamped saddles) bridge for this 2 7/32", and wanted a heavy block, what would be my least expensive option? The Custom Shop? Even so, are the new "heavy" blocks that Fender's dishing out even steel? I think I heard that brought up in another post. I would hate to get one with a heavy block and then want to replace it with a callaham if I found it out wasn't steel. What would be my best bet? What am I looking for here?

Geez..I'm about to bang my head against the wall! lol

Thanks for helping me out Mark.

Here is stuff about trems and blocks.

Most MIM's have zinc blocks the exception to that rule is the Jimmie Vaughan which has the same breidge the USA AV series uses which is also the same as the Custom Shop uses.

That same tremelo is used on the 57/62 USA reissues and all the CS guitars with vintage specs its basicly a gotoh bridge made for Fender.

Best bang for the buck is the Wilkinson vintage bridge the saddles wont say Fender but its a slightly better product.

The new enhanced Callaham is really nice $100 for those around $75-80 for the USA AV bridge and around $45 for the Wilkinson. Those all have steel blocks.

I feel your frustration guys. I've been looking for a replacement bridge for a few weeks. Most sellers, and usually even the manufacturer websites (if they even have one) don't specify the specs. If anything, they usually say something vague like "USA spacing" or "will fit your vintage Strat like a glove".

That's nice, but I want measurements... you'd think that would be a necessary thing to include. It's like buying a car and not knowing how many cylinders the engine has.

But, I feel retarded because I measured my trem again and it's 2-1/16" not 2-1/8" so I'm going to buy the Callaham mexican kit. There is next to nothing available for 2-1/8" spacing so I feel a little better.

Okay, end rant. Sorry about that, I just had to vent.

This is the Wilkinson you want.

Stratosauras if you buy the MIM bridge from Callaham its not gonna work correctly unless your putting it on an MIM body.

It's a MIM Squier. Does that count?

Great thanks for the reassurance, Mark. This is the last step to making it my #1.

That is, at least until I upgrade a few of my others.

The new enhanced Calllaham is a killer. The pop in arm will eliminate that whammy bar slop.

A good tremelo on a Strat is the most important thing. It has to work right or playing is no fun if you have to retune after any whammy dive.

The best most stable tremelo system I have used is Leos improved design the dual fulcrum tremelo. My S500's stay in perfect tune after hours of whammy use.

Cool! I'm excited to finally have a working trem on one of my strats. Both are pulled down tight with the arms removed. The zinc saddles leave much to be desired also.

Playing SRV's "Lenny" without vibrato just isn't right.

As Johnnie Cochran might have said "Cant win a Grammy if you dont use the Whammy" LOL

I just installed one of the Wilkinson trems Mark mentioned on a MIM strat body. I was refinishing the body so I drilled it for the wider vintage specs. It looks good and sounds great compared to a standard MIM block. This was a right handed guitar for my daughter, I have a lefty MIM strat. I wanted to go with a Callahan for my lefty, but he doesn't make a lefty block. Looks like I might have to drill that one out also to upgrade the trem.
