Heather Anne Peel May 27th, 2006, 04:47 PM Mike Campbell's Broadcaster is a feature story in the July 2006 issue of Guitar Player. It is a beauty, and Mike is one of the greatest Rock guitarists, ever, as far as I am concerned. Cool interviews with both Petty and Campbell, as well as a nice tribute to Buck Owens, as well. Mike bought his Broadcaster in 1976 for $600 (!) and has used it on many of Tom's classic tracks ever since.

emisilly May 27th, 2006, 06:07 PM I ran across that article yesterday while goofing off at GC. Man, I don't know if I've ever seen more of a real "relic" than that. Sure has tons of charecter!
I would argue that as far as rock music is concerned his tone, and that from any Pretenders album pretty much are symbolic of why tele's are so darn cool.
Bonneville Bruce May 27th, 2006, 10:52 PM I was enchanted by that photo of his Tele, it is a great piece of rock 'n' roll history and a beautiful instrument.

telelover23 June 14th, 2006, 09:57 PM Did anyone else notice that there's something not quite right about Mike's Broadcaster? Look at the picture in Guitar Player. The headstock decal and string tree placement is common to a '56-'59(maple neck). The twelfth fret position markers are common to a late '52 to a mid '63. I wonder what the story is behind these discrepancies?
lewis June 14th, 2006, 10:12 PM I haven't read GP in a while since they did a redesign a couple years ago but the TP feature was designed and written better than anything I've seen from them in a while. Notice they don't have a photo of a guitar across the top of the cover any more? And the photos on the inside are running large again like they should. There was nothing more distressing than seeing them run gut shots of amps the size of a postage stamp.
Good job GP.
Now when are they going to do that feature on the TDPRI?

It's probably just a Broadcaster body with a later Tele/Esquire neck.
teledude66 June 14th, 2006, 10:25 PM I was at the local shop today and noticed there cover of GP was different than the one I bought from Books a Million, just thought it was funny that there were two covers. I know awhile back they did 4 for the Beatles, but I haven't read if there's any significance to this one. Good issue btw.
moparmutt June 14th, 2006, 11:26 PM Mike Campbell is really great. I seen him with TP a bunch of times when I lived in FL. Saw them early on at the jai-alai in Fern Park. Right when Damn the Torpedos came out.
Them Gainesville boys kick butt!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, but it says broadcaster, so it has been at least redecaled. The body is a clear finish, broadcasters have a blond finish that flake easily, so many were refinished. So I think it's been refinished too.

Hugh O'Connor June 15th, 2006, 04:06 PM On page 133 he explains how it got wet on the Japan boat trip, re-decaled after? I have a photo of a Broadcaster with a 'round' type tree placed higher on the headstock, between the 3 + 4th pegs.
Thanks,
Hugh

Mine )I subscribe) has the Broadcaster straight across the top of the cover. I did notice a different cover on the one at Borders when I was there. Thought that was interesting. I wonder if the subscription and newstand covers are supposed to be different?
