Pickup wiring question STK-S2...

Hey Guys,
I've have a Nashville-style partscaster that I been workin' on, and I picked up a Seymour Duncan Hot Stack for Strat, STK-S2, to throw in the middle pickup position... This thing has 5 lead wires !!... The red, black, Green, white, I understand... But there is also an unshielded, bare lead coming out of the bundle of wires... Does anyone know what that lead is for ??... As far as I can tell, it is not documented in the schematics that came with the pickup... Any info would be appreciated...

If a pickup has a bare wire, it is always a ground for the metal parts on the pickup. A pickup may have a metal base, or a cover, or some other part that needs to be grounded. On older pickups, this ground was often integrated with the ground for the coils, but that meant you could not reverse the leads, in case the pickup was out of phase with another one. (The metal parts must always be grounded, regardless of how the coils are connected.) Simply connect the bare wire to ground.

Makes sense... I wonder why the schematic doesn't show that wire going to ground... Anyway, thanks much for the tip... Will do...
