Removing a stain from a poly neck

I just got a 96 MIJ jazzmaster in the mail (sorry, not a tele - but it IS a fender)

On the back of the neck there are a few places with red stains that seem to have penetrated the finish. The guy I bought it from doesn't know what it is, and I have tried water, alcohol, and some swirl/haze remover to try to get it out to no avail.

It sorta looks like ink or permanent marker somehow penetrated a little, but not down into the wood.

Any suggestions as to how I can get these spots out??

You might try wet sandpaper .......... maybe starting with 1000 grit ....... then finer grits ........ the polish with the swirl remover.

Acetone might work.

how about denatured alcohol?

I don't like the thought of sanding - just hoping that some kind of chemical cleaner can pull it out without marring the finish.

I bought a guitar from Music-go-round online and when it came the neck was covered with black stuff . Nothing would take it off. I was just about to send it back when I decided to try acetone (nail polish remover). It removed every last bit of it, and fast.
