odiemann April 27th, 2006, 01:22 PM I may done missed it, but that station is the most telecaster, terrific haven. Sirius 63, more quality country from all eras (guitar heavy) played there than I have ever heard.
A tele-lovers dream!
I have no connection with Sirius at all!
moparmutt April 27th, 2006, 03:40 PM my bro is always telling me how great the outlaw country station is. I needs me some sirius!!
The Actionman April 27th, 2006, 05:09 PM You are correct - heavy guitar content!
That station has the BEST variety of stuff out of all the stations Sirrus offers. One of my favorite features is that they actually have radio SHOWS where hosts actually tie together songs, themes etc. and supply excellent info on the artist/era played. The show Cowboy Jack Clement hosts on Saturdays is like going to Rock-n-Roll class!
Love ol' Mojo, but I have to be careful while the kids are in earshot - it is a non-FCC regulated thang and an F-Bomb has been known to be randomly dropped
OC63 is the SOLE reason I bought a Sirrus unti for my vehicle. I've had it for 2yrs on the home satellite and had to have that variety to go!
fullerplast April 27th, 2006, 05:18 PM XM has eight different "country" stations, but I find myself listening to the alt-country station X-Country more than the others. Good stuff.
TeleTurkey April 27th, 2006, 05:59 PM I definately dig X Country. It's what keeps the XM radio in my car and home. They play all kinds of music I would call "good" including good-country. Best of all I don't have to listen to pop-country.
I do miss having Webb Wilder as a DJ though.
getbent April 27th, 2006, 07:30 PM sirius country +1
they have a cool 70's country channel too (6 or 7 country total)
OutlawSteph1975 April 28th, 2006, 01:20 AM I love the "OC" too. You never have to wait around too long to hear a Tele or a real country song. I would like to see Sirius expand their country station selection to include a station that is exclusively newer alt.country, say mid 90s to today, but for now Outlaw Country does a great job playing a mix of music, old and new, that shares nothing else other than it is outside the mainstream of country.
Brick April 28th, 2006, 01:30 AM Sirius Underground Garage is a treasure.
Brick April 28th, 2006, 01:31 AM Sirius Underground Garage is a treasure.
andrew April 28th, 2006, 02:43 AM XM has some great stations. XCountry, and Hanks Place are great.
halouis April 28th, 2006, 11:29 AM Sirius is great! Outlaw Country, Sirrius Disorder, Underground Garage, Raw Dog, and of course, Howard Stern ... amongst so much more.
fullerplast April 28th, 2006, 01:27 PM For country channels or any genre, both XM and Sirius offer far better content than terrestrial radio. Which you choose depends on what features and/or content you weigh more heavily.
If you have to have Stern or listen to football, you need Sirius. If you like O&A or baseball, you need XM. Sirius has Miami Steve and Jimmy Buffet as part time DJ's, XM has Tom Petty and Bob Dylan with their own radio shows.
For strictly music, XM has a far larger music library than Sirius and offers more obscure/alternate versions/unusual covers than Sirius as a result. On the other hand either service may offer particular programs or channels that you prefer. XM has 170 channels, Sirius has 125 channels. You'll probably find that you listen to 5 to 10 favorite channels most of the time.
If you listen only at home, you may find that XM offers better and more consistent reception due to the geostationary orbit of the satellites. Once you set your antenna for best reception, it stays optimum. Sirius has an elliptical orbit, so the optimum antenna position changes with the orbit, causing dropouts or spotty reception in marginal locations. For strictly mobile use, this is not a problem and in fact Sirius has a slight advantage with a slightly higher orbit that will do better with high buildings or trees. On the other hand, XM has far, far more repeaters in urban areas so line of site is not even an issue in most cities.
If you want portable reception, for use hiking, jogging, on the beach, etc., only XM has portable receivers including the latest Inno/Helix (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1947591,00.asp) getting rave reviews. These new units also offer direct recording of songs, (buffered so you can record the entire song at any point while listening) and also the ability to store and play MP3's. Sirius offers one unit (the S50) that can play MP3's and do some recording, but definately check out user comments (http://www.engadget.com/2005/12/02/sirius-s50-has-been-siriusly-crippled-by-the-riaa/) on this one before buying. Sirius has no portables with live reception.
Satellite radio is great. Choose the service based on your particular needs and listening preferences. The first time you take over a four hour drive somewhere, you'll wonder how you ever did without it. It really makes long trips fly by and even at home you'll re-discover just listening to radio for entertainment instead of watching TV.
bigdog April 28th, 2006, 01:44 PM I went sattelite a few years ago and chose the XM set up based purely on euipment. A few months later we started to get SIRIUS from Dish Network as part of our programming and I was blown away by Outlaw Country. It was like someone asked me all my favorite tunes and artists and set up a private radio channel. I was interested to learn Steven Van Zandt was the mastermind behind the OC and he has input into the programming still. In the interview I heard he said after getting The Underground Garage off the ground he was suprised to see there was no outlet for Traditional and more hard core country music available so he got the ball rolling.

He obviously didn't check out XM....
(BTW, I love Steve's underground garage-it's syndicated on FM too! Great show.)
Sirius Country (http://www.sirius.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Sirius/CachedPage&c=Page&cid=1065475754163&flash=noflash)
XM Country (http://www.xmradio.com/programming/neighborhood.jsp?hood=country)
Not really much different than picking out a tele....whatever works for you! 8)
bigdog April 28th, 2006, 02:45 PM I only caught part of the interview and there were no real dates or time lines given but I got the impression that these ideas were prior to Sattelite radio or just in it's nascent stages.
Btw, I do miss the uncensored comedy on XM as that channel has programming far superior to SIRIUS'. Regardless of platform both companies offer something that terrestrial radio doesn't , simply formats that are attractive to all types of listeners.
On a desert island I wouldn't kick either one out of bed !
