Wah Wah Waaaahh...

I just purchased a used Vox V847wah wah pedal that's in excellent cond. but I'm kind of disillusioned with the tone. Although I've only used it through a small practice amp so far, it seems to really deminish the low tone when it's on and when I move the pedal it seems to do more wowing than wahing. This is my first wah pedal but I've been listening to them for many years. Is this just what a Vox wah sounds like? Maybe I purchased the wrong brand. I'd really like to keep the pedal, it's solid and well made. Does anyone know of a MOD for these pedals that may help?

There are a ton of mods for this pedal.
The most popular is hard wired bypass. It's cheap and easy to do.
There are instructions on the Fulltone site.

You can change the wah's range by rotating the pot and even changing the position of the gear and the rack teeth.

If you push the pedal all the way down the pot should be about 1 tooth away from the end it's rotation in that direction of rotation.

You can change it by either loosening the pot's nut and rotating the pot, or for a bigger change, loosen the screw that holds the rack's guide, pull the rack back and rotate the pot's gear a tooth or 2.

Just don't move it so much that the pot will hit the end of it's rotation while in use.

I have a few word documents with wah mods that I can send you (for free, of course).
E-mail me if you're interested.

Also, experiment with where you put it in your chain of effects.

I put my Fuzz first followed by the Wah, then overdrive, delay and Rotosphere just before the amp.

I don't suppose you know if it's just as straightforward with the bog-standard Crybaby?

Go to Fulltone's site. They've got instructions there for Cry Babies too.
