I'm looking for a 50's ri Fender in white ash for a prjoect Tele. Which body should I use Mexico or Japan? Which one could I count on being lighter and a better grade of wood? Any finish factors I should be aware of? I will be going the Fleabay route so I can't actually weigh the body? Any info on the differences or quality?
Thanks

Id say MIM since your looking for ASH.
A 50's Classic body is what you want.
Weight is all over the place there are light and heavy bodies from all makers. I have owned 3 50's Classics 2 were under 7 lbs total guitar weight the other was 7lbs 10 oz.
The MIJ Teles are usually made from Sen Alder or Basswood.
The MIM is polyester which is a thick finish the MIJ is polyurethane which is much thinner. Most of the places that sell alot of bodies like reliablefender put the weight of the body in the ad.
If you want a real light Tele look for a body under 4 lbs.

Thanks Mark. I had no idea that the Japanese bodies were different wood.
