Harry Häussel - Tele Broadcaster set ??

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody has had any experiences with the Häussel Broadcaster set? Or a mere Broad set is what they are called, I think. www.haeussel.com is his website. The set has the alnico3 bridge and alnico5 neck pups. The price is not out of this world - 165 euros here in Finland.

I searched and found a few threads where someone had them installed, but I need more exact information about them. I know it's very hard to describe how they sound, but try it. :)

I haven't tried a lot different pups like many of you have. I have the Duncan Broadcaster in a tele copy which is a great bridge pup but sometimes I think it has even a little too much of an attitude and it sounds a bit too focused, if you know what I mean. Still a very good and affordable pup and it makes a good combo with a DiMarzio Twang King neck.

But now I'm searching a set or at least a bridge pup for my Lite Ash tele. It has the stock Duncan Alnico 2 Pro in the bridge. A2P is also a good all-around pup but it's quite the opposite of the Duncan Broadcaster. Very polite and smooth. Not enough twang on the lower strings. That leads to the need for something different for my Lite Ash. I think I need something with a little more bite and attitude, but not as much as a Broadcaster.

Would you say the Häussel Broad bridge pup lies somewhere between the Duncan Broadcaster and Alnico 2 Pro?? And what about the Häussel Broad neck? Is it a clear sounding one (like the Twang King neck, which I like) or dark and a little muddy (like the Alnico 2 Pro neck). Another one I've been considering is the Duncan 5/2 bridge which sounds what I've been looking for with it's mix of alnico5 and alnico2.

Thanks.

I had a Häussel Broadcaster bridge pickup in one of my Teles. Top A+++ build quality.
The Häussel Broadcaster with its Alnico 3 magnets sounds very similar to the Fender Nocaster bridge PU.
In comparison to the Fender Nocaster, the Häussel Broadcaster delivers a slightly beefier sound and a bit more output.
This pickup definetely has character.

Sorry, never had a SD pickup to compare it to.

hi pep,
funny,i actually played all 3 of`em yesterday side by side,
haeussel broadc., s.d broadc. and s.d. alnico 2 pro.

all of them sound very good of course but in my esquire
i`ll have the haeussel and that means it`s the best sounding to me.
tighter bass response than the alnico 2 pro, less ear-piercing than the s.d. broadc. just really good with lots of guts.

by the way i bought it from haeussel personally and he`s a great and honest guy.

his neck pickup is the best i`ve heard so far also i.m.o.

Thanks for the response guys! I appreciate it.

Sounds like it would be worth it to try the Broadcaster set from him. Of course all the additional experiences from the others are welcome too.

I almost forgot to add that I'm looking for pickups that sound great both clean and overdriven - sometimes very heavy overdrive.

they sound good either way.
i forgot to say the neck pickup sounds a little fuller and kinda darker than f. ex. the `52 ri but still sparkles and has a real 3- dimensional punchy sound that added a lot of fun to my neck pickup playing.

I'm sounding like a broken record on this topic, but...
(if you can tolerate the non-vinatge look)
If your neck pup isn't mounted to p.guard, i.e., IS mounted directly to wood, than try a modern p.guard and mount the Alnico II Pro to the guard. I think it will take the tone in the direction you're saying you want.
It may not be the thing for you, but its a cheap(er) & faster change than a new pup.
